Hello Captains,

I did a quick search and couldn't find any threads discussing the matter.

Yesterday's Trafalgar was the largest battle I have ever participated in and it was the most fun I've had in the game for a while now (thanks for organizing it! :) ).  That being said, when the battle started and everyone unloaded the cannons at the same time, frames per second dropped from unpleasant 30 fps, to unbearable 10-15 fps or so.

I'm curious have much room is there left for the devs to improve the game's performance in such huge fights. Generally, the game runs at ~60fps  for me which is amazing for an alpha, but more content is coming, maybe more men, cannons recoiling, more detailed rigging, more ships and more textures. Basically more work for both cpu and gpu. That combined with already low fps on a decent computer in these huge battles (which I'm sure will happen often when the games gets fully released) makes me hope there is much room to optimize the battle instances, or at least add some tricks to preserve the fps while making your ship and a few others around you still being fully detailed.

I'd love to hear what you guys think, and hopefully get a response from the admin :)

Thanks!

May i ask at which settings you run the game?

I fought the whole battle at a steady 30 fps (i put that as max limit) whilst streaming it as well. I personally dont get low fps during the fights.

Everything on high, anti-aliasing on 2x. Though I've found that even setting everything to low and turning anti-aliasing off in such battles barely gives more fps. It's kinda weird, turning off the anti-aliasing in OW gives ~25fps, while turning it off in such huge battles gives 2-4 fps at best.

My specs:
i5-4430 3.00 GHz
MSI 780 lighting
8GB ram.
Windows 7 64-bit.

Turn antisotropic down as well, doesnt make that much of a difference anyways, should boost your fps quite a bit.

EDIT: have you had this issue in any of the others trafalgars?

I'll try it out. It was a bit better, but I think that was mainly because there weren't so many ships in the battles that I participated.

yeah, there is room for optimization in the game, but for the early stage in development and how good it looks, i would say it isnt too bad.

For an alpha it's great. I'm not concerned about the alpha-beta stages, I wouldn't be even if it was bad. I'm just wondering about the final release and what can still be accomplished until then :)
