Alejandro Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I'm not yet to the point where I go around in 1st rates but it feels like being able to have an unlimited number of captured ships a day defeats the purpose of a solid player-based economy where ships should be the end-all of crafting. Not to mention that the ease with which we can board a NPC ship will quickly make PvP and RvR consequence-free as people will have tons of ships and be able to easily replace even the most massive losses (1st rates). Unless I'm missing something, there should definitely be some kind of limit on captured ships, perhaps one every X hours or 2 per day, etc.
admin Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Stores replicate crafters now. Once crafters appear ships from the stores will dissapear. It will change the balance a lot. 2
jodgi Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 ...will quickly make PvP and <snip> consequence-free... Sounds wonderful! I want that! I know... I know...
Alejandro Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Stores replicate crafters now. Once crafters appear ships from the stores will dissapear. It will change the balance a lot. I understand that part. My fear is that it is currently too easy to capture ships on the open world, especially ones of your class or below (which, ultimately, as people inevitably progress towards the last ranks, means every ship in the game). Unless I don't know about some game mechanism, what good will it do to have crafters making ships if you can group up with a few friends and hit a Santisima/Victory fleet and just have everybody capture a ship (and then repeat the maneuver several times a day)? Who's going to buy? On edit: it also makes it a bit easy to make money by selling parts of captured ships. I appreciate you taking your time to answer, though, admin. It's refreshing to see, compared to other games. Edited August 12, 2015 by Alejandro

It's refreshing to see, compared to other games. The problem with captured ships are, they can't get durabilities back. The only people who put yellow modules on captured ships are extremely rich people. People who don't like to risk expensive ships and don't want to put modules on ships will use captured ships. Those of us who don't like to use captured ships and prefer to shell out the money to buy a proper ship so we can put modules on them will continue to buy them, especially since crafted ships (at least from expert crafters) are supposedly going to be better than what is offered in the store now.
Hugh Latham Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I'm sure this will all be worked out when crafting is enabled. All part of the test process.
