Hi all,

So my first post here, and I thought I would share some of my favourite naval books along with authors.

Some excellent reading to get us into the mood for this game when its out.

Please feel free to post any further materials which may interest others, but I would appreciate it if we could keep it on topic :)

First and foremost, my favourite author at the moment.

Julian Stockwin - The Kydd series, and excellent first book Kydd sets the tone for what is a brilliantly written ongoing series of books about Kydd a Wig Makers son from Guildford who gets caught up by the Royal Navy press and taken aboard a ship of the line as a land lubber and through sheer grit and determination makes his was aft of the mast the hard way.

Alairc Bond - A relative newcomer I guess to the naval action area, The Fighting Sail series are an excellent read and well worth picking up.

Douglas Reeman (Alexander Kent) and the Bolithio series, again an excellent set of books about Richard Bolithio who coming from a wealthy family works his was up from a Midshipman to an Admiral in 30 books, really an excellent read.

That's all I have for now,  I do have many more in my personal library for example Drinkwater (Series) and the Adam Pascoe (Series)  they are characters in the books,  I cannot remember the authors off the top of my head at the moment and my little un is wanting to play truck simulator  :)

So if you have any authors you'd like to share feel free to do so.  Keep on topic though.  Im looking for more reading material while waiting for the game to hit Early Release on Steam :)

All the best,

Wes

I recently read "The French Prize" by James Nelson about an American in the Quasi-War which I quite liked. Just came out a couple weeks ago.

Apparently the same author had a naval series about the father in the Revolution, but reviews say it isn't as well written, as the author is just learning his voice.

It is worth to mention that Douglas Reeman also has naval warfare novels in other times.

German WW2 cruiser, british nuclear hunter killer submarine, Blackwood family in the Royal Marines (1850- 1918)

"Two Years Before the Mast"

Tis an excellent account o the daily life aboard a Brig. The roles o various men, the breakdown of watches, sail in through storms… very descriptive… An excellent read!

Check it out at yer local library!

…or steal a copy from another sea captain...
