yamms Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) I want to publicly mention Cpt. Raatha for honorable action last night. He in his Santi along with a Pavel and a Consti attacked me in my Vic. I asked for a fair fight and Raatha agreed to fight one on one. When, after a few minutes of fighting Raatha's fellow captains engaged me as well, Raatha immediately disengaged and exited the battle.Truly honorable action on your part Mr. Raatha you have my admiration.Yamms Edited July 24, 2015 by yamms 8
nornica Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) Thats nice thing to read between all those ganking posts around forum.Btw.Maybe he had d/c? xD Edited July 24, 2015 by nornica
Spork Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Kudos to Raatha. Jeers to the thankfully unnamed Pavel and Consti captains. Cheers to you for posting this positive message.
Young Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 i think a connie and a paval vs a vic would aslo be a fair fight
yamms Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Would have been a fair fight for sure if it started like that. By the time I realized who I was fighting I had no stern armor a red rudder and a red pump. The rest was mostly a formality. Though I will admit, my strategy of focusing on sails was a mistake if I had gone for hull shots on the Pavel at the beginning it would have been closer.
yamms Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Nornica, Raatha didn't get dced as we discussed what he would do in chat. Also if that happened I would have a greed to another restart and a fair fight with the remaining ships or to both exit the battle and start again. The other two ships attacked without warning. Even Raatha didn't realize it until I mentioned it in chat.
Axralis Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Well you cant exept less from a true gentleman! Hat down sir Raatha,
Jean-Gaspard de Vence Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 This behavior seems so rare that it is appropriate to mention it. Congratulations

Prater Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I was the Pavel. We had chased yamms for over an hour. I caught yamms, then the Constitution joined in. When Raatha joined in a few minutes later, he immediately asked for a fair fight without consulting the Coni or me. Raatha did not need to join if he wanted the fight to be fair. What wasn't fair was that the Coni and I were almost denied PVP in which we had been chasing this guy for over an hour and we had caught the vic. As the US commander in the battle I had not agreed to a fair fight and I told Raatha right when he offered it that the Coni and I weren't going to give a fair fight. So Raatha left the battle. The fight was fair the entire time. Raatha left the battle, and a Pavel and Coni fought the Vic. Nothing unhonorable in that. If captains want fair fights or duels, they should arrange ahead of time to meet in a certain place. After a long chase, it is not fair to deny the workhorses who do the chasing to drink from their reward. Also, after a few minutes of fighting? You guys hadn't fought yet but were still setting it up when we engaged. And this is a pvp game. If you don't want to fight pvp go to the Gulf of Mexico. Are you telling me that after trying to find you for an hour and chasing you, where the coni spotted you, and I caught you, that we can't engage you? What is the point? Searching and chasing you for an hour, only to be told we can't engage? Sorry, nope.
yamms Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Prater, First let me say that my goal here was to praise Raatha not cry foul about your actions. I didn't mention you or the other captains name on purpose as it would have detracted from the compliment I was trying to pay Raatha. Second, and to the meat of what you are saying: Nornica, Raatha didn't get dced as we discussed what he would do in chat. Also if that happened I would have a greed to another restart and a fair fight with the remaining ships or to both exit the battle and start again. The other two ships attacked without warning. Even Raatha didn't realize it until I mentioned it in chat. I would have accepted the fight with you and the connie without the Santi. I was running with the potential fo escape, I had a long lead on you and was down wind. It may have been possible for me to run or turn and fight. However, once the Santi joined: I asked for a fair fight and Raatha agreed I didn't see any objection from you or the other captain in chat. Raatha asked me to drop sails to begin the battle at beam-reach facing one another you did not object I stopped stern facing you Raatha and I faced off You and the connie sat watching as Raatha and I squared off, didn't fire though you had ample time. You both watched as Raatha and I exchanged at least three broadsides each You didn't engage me until you and the connie were in position to stern rake not a stern chase but broadsides into my stern. You attacked without saying in chat that you had not agreed to the fair fight or even that you would attack While it's true neither you nor the Connie explicitly accepted the terms of 'fair fight' it is not unreasonable for me to assume acquiescence with the proposal given (#1-7) and especially #2, #3 & #6 If you did not accept the terms that the honorable thing would have been to stop me from dropping sails or to propose that we both leave the battle and start again. I get your frustration, it was a cool chase and you and your captains did it well. If there weren't so many other SOLs of your fleet with you I may have engaged much earlier. In the area there were at least 2 Santis, 2 Pavels and the Consti. At one point you were sailing as a fleet and I couldn't be sure that I wouldn't be attacked by four or more ships of the line. Ganking is part of the game, if no one agreed to the fair fight I would have continued fighting running and playing without complaint. I have never complained about being ganked as I understand that it is a risk you take when you leave harbor. My complaint is the less than honorable actions once something else was agreed to. Respectfully, Yamms
Prater Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 If you did not accept the terms that the honorable thing would have been to stop me from dropping sails or to propose that we both leave the battle and start again. Yamms, If you want honor to be shown specifically to you, you specifically should not attack lone American Ensigns in Lynxes outside Brunswick with an entire squadron in your Bellona and with AI support plus 2 other players and AI support.
yamms Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Cpt. Prater, So you admit that that your actions were dishonorable (https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/tu-quoque). The tu quoque fallacy is when you avoid having to engage in with criticism by turning it back on your accuser. It is a red herring and tantamount to admitting defeat. "I may be dishonorable but no more dishonorable than you" you've ceded the point that your actions were dishonorable and accused another person to deflect the heat from you onto them. I don't think it's working. Remember that I did not begin this thread in order to criticize I began it ignored to compliment. Those compliments still stand and as you have admitted so do the criticisms you brought upon yourself. Respectfully, Yamms

How can they be, when as the commander in battle and the first to join and the closest to you and of a faster ship than you, I was not consulted first.
yamms Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Prater, If you want honor to be shown specifically to you The implication of this is that you did not show me honor. Let me say, that it dawns on me that you may have seen my introducing this thread a means of criticising you. It was not meant as such you have my apologies if it came out that way. Yamms

Out of interest Prater - if you were aware that an agreement had been arrived at why didn't you tell Yamms that you weren't going along with it?
Prater Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 No agreement had been arrived at. The Coni and I were going straight at the Vic and gaining ground fast. I never lowered my sails but proceeded to get on the vic and opened fire when I was right behind him. The Santi and Vic hadn't even exchanged fire yet and once Raatha saw that I had fired on Yamms, I am not even sure if he fired on Yamms but he decided to leave the battle.
Guest raat Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Thanks for the praise, but really not needed. We indeed had been chasing you for an hour. When I heard you offered a fair fight, I accepted. However, I didn't consult my clan mates. Which was my mistake. Once I noticed a clan mate of mine firing on you, I decided to just leave the battle. Therefore, preserving a roughly fair battle of Pavel and Connie vs. Victory. Cheers. Hope to see you on the OW again. o7
Charles Caldwell Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Gentlemen, shall we keep inter clan squabbles to PMs or Clan forums.... here is not the place. Commodore Yamms, clearly was honouring a fellow players without mentions names of the other members of the engagement. There was no need to bring this down to the level of tit for tat accusations. Locked: Salute Raatha.
