Hello,

I just found this game and im already excited to see it in early access! :D

I was wondering however, what the plan for economy is (not necessarily at launch but long term).

Two main questions,

When a ship is destroyed, is the whole thing destroyed?

Will everything be available to buy from NPCs?

When a ship is destroyed, is the whole thing destroyed? Many MMO players automatically recoil at the idea of main equipment loss however removing things from the game is very important to a busy and interesting economy. The idea that something you've worked hard for being lost sounds bad but if the cost of ships is such that you can afford to replace it then its ok. Those who have played EVE online will know you simply dont sail in a ship you cant afford to loose. As you advance in game you can afford to loose bigger and bigger ships so its not the end of the world.

This way player building and trading has meaning. If player guilds are having a big fight somewhere in the world then they are going to be using up ammo and ships and so traders will know theres money to be made transporting ships, ship building materials and supplies to war zones.

If most items persist with no real loss then player production is severely crippled as there will only ever be a very finite demand for things to be made.

Also, if ship building were to be something thats really not doable for a single player then theres a whole world of player co-operation that can evolve. Player formed ship yards and trading companies etc.

Is there an aspiration to have an economy in this kind of depth or is it going to be more of you buy everything from npc's, maybe player built stuff is better. Trading consisting of NPC trade routes etc?

cheers

every ship you buy has 5 durability, so it can sink 5 times, any you capture only has one so it can only sink once, you can not get everything at a single port so exploring is important, that is all i got for now.

Thats encouraging :) hopefully the intention will be to build it so production and trade is more reliant on players than npc seeds too.

It is my understanding that the focus is currently on combat and that later development may include other aspects of open world.  Work has begun on port battles and the initial pieces of trade has been introduced into the game.  At this time trade is not integrated with warfare.

I am hopeful that eventually economics will be an critical factor to strategic success.  Hopefully building and maintaining all vessels will require material and supply and therefore it will be essential to keep supply lines open and to be able to trade and transport all the goods required to continue fighting.

This may be just wishful thinking.
