I keep getting a message when I try to sail from port that I do not have cannons equipped in decks. I do not have enough gold to buy cannons so how do I equip in decks?

It's just telling you, you can ignore the message if you want to sail without cannons.

get back to basic lynx and earn some cash for cannons

alternatively capture a ship with cannons sell the ship but keep the cannons and install them

remember that you can only keep one ship in the ports where you have no docks (outpost) if you sail out in a lynx out of such port you will lose your bought ship (it will be stolen by crooks)
