Destraex Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 In the open world I had my first battle in a cutter. A spanish person called Kongre Ramsay attacked me. Problem was even though I was doing everything right I could not really get above 5 kts. I was starting to get suspicious and tried to contact the person - who I assumed to be AI - but no response - so probably AI. About 10 minutes later all of a sudden my speed boosted back to what I thought it should be on the same tack. I was able to do over 12kts out of their and barely escaped alive.... Before this in the open world as I approached closer to the spaniad (lone Spaniard in mercury) I noticed a lag spike where I paused for a second and then went to 20-30kts instead of the normal 16-17 and back and forth a few times. I would put this down to LAG? 1
BungeeLemming Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This sounds to me that you may have clicked the magical "T" at one point of the battle. Some sail settings will still show you the jibs and staysls standing but they are actually still depowered. You should always klick "s" and "w" in quick sequence to make sure your staysls are dragging again.
SteelSandwich Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Either 't', or one of the q/e or z/c keys which trigger manual sailing. Manual sailing can slow you down when its activated without you knowing.
Destraex Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 I will keep that in mind in future thanks. I have a screenshot.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I'd say definitely T. You won't be able to tell from the screen but the symptoms are perfect for that issue.
Magnum Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Actually it would say "depower" right under the "Full 100%" - if he were depowered - in my experience.
maturin Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Should probably rename 'Depower' as 'Douse Staysails.'
Prater Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Actually it would say "depower" right under the "Full 100%" - if he were depowered - in my experience. If he is at 100% sails and hit T and then hit T again there is a bug that if you don't cycle your sails (change it by at least 1% and then change back), you will not be able to go very fast and will be stuck at a low speed. I am pretty certain this is the case here.

admin Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I will keep that in mind in future thanks. I have a screenshot. It's a bug with T. Pressing it again does not bring the staysails and jibs in code (but opens them up visually). Workaround - lower sails by S and up by W it will get back to full speed. Will be fixed on Wednesday 1
delaine Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 i depower sails quite often to get a better shot when rolling but when i first started i to encountered this bug and quickly did that work around after i figured out what happened
Destraex Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Thanks Admin, although I was not really aware of T at all before this thread. So must have been an accident while pressing 5 to repair. I appreciate all the responses lads.
