Is this game using Digital Elevation Models for creating the terrain? Will it be able to import terrains (layouts/maps) and content (ships, buildings, trees, and so on) made by users like the various train simulators (Microsot Train Simulator, Train Simulator 2015, Trainz) or ship simulators (like Virtual Sailor)?

Thank you in advance.

First of all, I would like to thank Game labs for such an interesting game concept. Been waiting for such an age of sail simulator for long time. Potbs wasn’t great with all it’s magical buffs and debuffs, and the horrible avcom.

My question is: how is ship and cargo loss is planned to work?

Eveonline style – where you lose your ships and the cargo, if so will there some kind of insurance?

OR WOT style - where you just need to repair the ships, but don’t need to repurchase it?

Do you think it will be possible to individualize his ship. (Like Black sails, or any color of you ship)

And can you make money and buy some new ships or cannons or whatever?

Personally I hope it's like in EVE, everything there has a real sense of loss and I work my darndest to make sure I survive. Be it through real skill, deception or having friends providing backup. WoT fosters a disposable mentality, I don't care if I lose my T1 tank or my T10 tank because I just jump into the next fight, win, die, rinse & repeat. A middle ground I might go for but I sincerely hope we won't just whelp 10 SoL's 'for the lulz'.

Every Open World related question can only be answered with the "Open world" forum section.

The prototype for sailing is barely done and devs are working on so many other things.

That means stuff like economy and shipbuilding, trading etc are not planned in detail. yet.

In the current version of the game do battle sails decrease the amount or chance to recieve damage to the sails?

From my experience it looks like it does not matter if you set your sails to full or battle, you still recieve the same damage. I hope i am wrong

Also, when the game launches are we going to play on a single server like in EVEonline, or there will be serveral regional servers like in POTBS

They jury is still out on this one. Rumour has it that there may be a second server. If a second server is introduced, it will feature a fictional game world (think Civilisation). The first server is planned to feature a real game world.

It works a bit differently: If a cannonball hits a sail, the sail receives damages. By setting your sails to 'battle sails' there is less chance for a cannonball to hit a sail. However, if a cannonball hits a sail, the sail still receives the full 1-cannonball damage.

1) Will we be able to join nations and thier warfare. How big a part of the game will this be

2) Will we get benefits form join a nations, such as cheaper ships if the nations owns that ship

like if i join england the HMS victory would be cheaper, to "push" people to make a more historical accurate fleet

3) lets say i join france, and france are at war with england. Will british attack me, and will i get attack if i try to go to british ports?

This isn't planned at the moment, maybe in the future.

Cargo will be taken or lost, ship fate isn't decided yet. Devs want to cut on player's time, thus there may be harsh monetary penalties instead or ship loss.

1) Yes there will be multiple nations, and conquest  2) Nation-specific bonuses haven't been mentioned yet - ship price bonuses probably not, because the ships are to be sailed by everyone  3) yes

(open wolrd features aren't fully developped yet)

So in game today I captured a Bellona. and i was so happy that i unlocked it , and finished the battle and the realized I DIDENT GET IT. I was angry at first and I couldn't find a reasonable explanation till now.

so my question is WILL WE BE ABLE TO CAPTURE AND UNLOCK A SHIP just not all the other ships before it?

The current advancement system is unique to Sea Trials. We're not entirely sure just yet how advancement will work in the Open World. For now, as you've noticed, capturing a ship in Sea Trials does not grant you access to it - you need to play through the ships so that the developers can continue to collect the requisite data to fine tune ship to ship combat.

I know this has probably been asked quite a lot, but when will the game be available for purchase again.
Yes I understand it's still in development, I'd like to help out with the testing, the only other indev game I own would be star citizen and it doesn't really lend itself to the type of testing and playing that Naval Action is offering; being more of a setpiece to keep people happy with the hundreds they just spent on pixel spaceships, but I digress; when can I buy and play Naval Action, even a rough figure of when would be good, just not "soon™"
Edit: I also couldn't find any reference to pricing on your site, what's the going rate in a currency of your choosing?

with early acces on steam could be in around 2 months or something

Excellent, thanks for the reply. Do you have any plans to make ships upgradable (like increase the calibre of the cannons (with longer reload times but better range and damage), add thicker armour (with manouverability penalties, naturally) increase the size of the hold (with a reduction in ship durability) and other things like that?

Oh and will there be any land based combat (or when the game becomes more developed?)

As well as this barrage of questions, will there be a leveling system (something which when done well can work great but when done not so well just removes fun from the game, in my opinion) or will the game depend on player skill alone?

playerskill alone no fancy magic.

you can change the gun load out allready i.e. Victory with only 6lb on all decks.

upgrades we will see most likely a gun coach or better protection for magazin.

I probably should have used the word ranking rather than levelling as in a player of a higher rank may attract a better crew, officers and the like for a small bonus, as well as that shouldn't better ranks open you up to better ships, or at least the capacity to command them efficiently? Naturally player skill will make up a huge portion of how well someone does in a fight, but that's the same for games like EvE (which I feel would focus too heavily on levelling/ranking compared to Naval Action, though (since not much info about how ships will be purchased and such) but it would feel a bit silly if a group of people bought currency (either licitly or illicitly, depending on your currency model), grabbed first rate ships of the line and some escort ships and wreaked havoc just because they put up the RL money to do so. Personally I'm a big fan of games like AOP2 COAS and the original pirates of the Caribbean (which had nothing to do with the movies) though since they're single player and 'arcadey' I don't expect Naval Action to be very similar, except maybe in the fact that you get penalties imposed for sailing ships above your rank.

Thanks for all the replies by the way, you've been very helpful.

That's dependent on your "profession". We're not Devs, just player volunteers, but effectively, if you're a Naval Officer, your "reputation" will likely determine what ship(s) may be assigned to you. As a Privateer or Merchant, we'd have to assume the size of your wallet would control what you could purchase to use in your travels. Admin has stated that there may be "investors" or others willing to lend you a ship or funds to proceed as well.

Devs once said you can contact them and apply for steam keys. Ofc you have to pay the 40bucks like everyone else did.

You basically have to write a small application that you are a special guy and that you have the best intentions and give good feedback.

Show them your passion about this game and/or the game's setting.

this goes for every eager person who wants to test this game.

Do you plan on having a ship designer where one will be able to chose tonnage, number of guns and crew, sails type, length width of the ship with max and min depending on ship class and being able to store guns in some port to arm as a flute and so on?

Posted

You will not see fantasy ships ingame.

Every ship we have and will get are based on either their historical counterpart or blueprints of never built ships such as the yacht we can sail.

However, you can decide how you arm and outfit the ship. Modifications for speeds or your fighting capability and survivability.

How much gun batteries you arm. (you can not arm gundecks designed for 10 guns with 4)

You can arm your Constitution ith topdeck guns only and have a frigate armed "en flute". As a troop transporter for example.

You will not be able to play shipwright in this game.
