I backup Lord Hoods post and others with the same view/knowledge.

Would love to get rid of the muliple ranks and just use Lieutenant, Commander or Post Captain. Your 'reputation' combined with an 'expenditure' when  recruiting would fill or paritally fill your crew requirement.

Flag ranked officer would ultimately be on board a ship a Captain would command. The captain involved had the honourary added of 'Post' Captain which only applied when the flag offcier was attached to his ship.

Reputation and expense would be a far better method of limiting crew numbers available.

Greater the reputation, the easier it is to attract new crew, The more expenditure you use in your recruiting campaign the easier it is to recruit crew etc.

Ideally

Lieutenants with the honorary rank Master & Commander for unrated vessels

Commander for 5th and 6th rated vessels

Post Captain for all 4th rate or higher.

Perhaps reputation would create a situation where you could 'attract' the attention of a flag offcier who when on board your ship would/could effect your ships efficiency in small ways.

Commander was simply used because M&C was too long, it essentially is the same rank.

But there was the difference between Captain under 3 years of rank and captain with more than this. Although the "post" has a different meaning we could use captain and post captain as different ranks.

Today I captured a trinchomalee and I'm only at a rank with Max 40 crew.

What crew size are we talking for me to decently handle it?

I'm not after full crew here.

I would say at the least being Master & Commander before taking the vessel out to sea.

I would like to see another ship, maybe two ships, to bridge the gap between the Pickle and a Brig. Something with a crew complement of around 85 to 110. A brig sloop or a sloop of war. As an alternative to buying next lvl ships you could capture one instead.

Perhaps a Corvette would be suited to that?

How did you manage to already get the BR of those higher level ships? Do you already have someone crafting them? If so wow that was fast.

Updated the post so far, just wondering if anyone can tell me the crew size for the Pirate Frigate, is it the same as the normal Frigate? Also have the crew sizes stayed the same and the ranks do they also give the same amount of crew as they used to?

(Have not played for a little while :P )

As to Fleet command, what rank will you need to be to command a fleet? Will a fleet be made up of squadron's, and will there be ranked officer to command a squadron then ranked officer to command a fleet? That is if you are going to have the fleet's made up of squadron's

Naval Officer ranks who commanded a Fleet or flotilla/squadron

Flag Officers:
Admiral of the fleet
Admiral
Vice Admiral
Rear Admiral
Commodore / Flotilla Admiral /Counter Admiral/ Senior Captain

Officer rank who commanded a single ship.

Senior officers:

Ship of The Line Captain

senior officers rank command below a ship of the line:  frigate corvette

Captain
Post Captain
Master & Commander/ Commander/ Frigate Captain
Lieutenant Commander/ Corvette Lieutenant

Junior officers: 6th 7th rate ship, that don't warrant a commander or captain to command.

Lieutenant
First Lieutenant/ Sub-Lieutenant/ Junior Lieutenant.

Ensign/ Midshipman these officers did not command a ship they where commissioned cadet officers in training, in charge of gunner crews ,sail crews These where also know as captain cabin boys. They were servants to offices with a higher rank of Captain on board ship and at naval dinner functions.

Traditionally, Commodore is the title for any officer assigned to command more than one ship at a time, even temporarily, much as Captain is the traditional title for the commanding officer of a single ship even if the officer's official title in the service is a lower rank. As an official rank, a commodore typically commands a flotilla or squadron of ships as part of a larger task force or naval fleet commanded by an Admiral.
