Oneironz Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 That was a very nice article about Naval Action! The writer has a rather cool writing style Thanks for sharing!

masterofn0ne Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Wasnt clear from the article, or the website, whether this game is currently in open alpha/beta? Is there going to be a Kickstarter? How can I start playing the game?!?!
Bobbydylan Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Wasnt clear from the article, or the website, whether this game is currently in open alpha/beta? Is there going to be a Kickstarter? How can I start playing the game?!?! As I understand it, the game is in early alpha with only a potion of it "playable" (these being the sea battles). The game's only been in Development for just under a year so I would expect anything that exists to be rough. You can volunteer in the focus testing thread. I think there was some mention of a Kickstarter down the line, once some footage is ready top be shown.
Lazy Eye Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 You, and everyone else on these forums! Theres enough slobbery kleenex here to build a papier mache Constitution. Thing is it will get soggy after a few seconds. Then it will break up and sink into a mush shortly after. Wont do you any good on the high seas I am afraid Also in battle your armour would feel like er... well.... um... Papier-mâché !
akd Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Naval Action got another mention in RPS' The Flare Path: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/12/12/the-flare-path-wages-war-in-the-west/#more-257383
RAMJB Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 "Could Naval Action eventually do for fighting sail what War Thunder has done for soaring fighters and World of Tanks has done for fighty crawlers?"I surely hope not. WT and WoT did attract attention to planes and tanks. It also attracted a legion of CoD addict 14 year olds which were prioritary target audience of WoT since the very beginning, but weren't in the case of WT, and the lust for the money of the masses of casuals has destroyed War Thunder's vision entirely. WT wasn't intended to be what it has turned itself into. If you hear the Q&A sessions of the developers in the early days of the open beta and take a look at the game right now, and where is heading to, it's night and day. So I sincerely hope NA doesn't do to age of sail what WoT did for tanks or WT for planes. I do hope it attracts a lot of attention towards age of sail - but mature attention. Not the standard battlefield crowd, which was what essentially ruined War Thunder. 6
Gunnyhighway Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 War Thunder was ultimately ruined by their owners, not by the gamers!...
RAMJB Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 War Thunder was ultimately ruined by their owners, not by the gamers!... By the owners who changed the game to suit a certain style of players. Chicken or egg, who comes first in the end it's the same. What matters is that the result is a ruin of a game and nothing like what they were promising us
BillBrasky Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 One could argue that this type of press is incredibly important for the development of this game becoming sustainable over the long haul. This game is as or more ambitious than any of the other games mentioned in that article, in order for it to be able to get to where the devs want it to be one of three things will need to happen. There either needs to be an influx of players, the devs need to raise the purchase price to a considerably higher price point, or they need to adopt the Rise Of Flight style of "The game is cheap, but every extra plane, gun, etc. is going to cost you actual money." They've already pretty flatly stated that they won't be going with option three. All things considered, I think the first option is the best. Given what I've seen from the devs so far they seem like a fairly trustworthy lot, so I'm more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Taking a reductive view of the general gaming populace as a whole isn't really going to help them make the money they need to support continued development, though.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 It's good press, and the resulting video, keystone cops and all, looked like a very fun scrum - of course all the cursing in chat maybe wasn't the best representation of our users (I hope).
5iou5 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I have a question. Will this game be free to play or single payment game or monthly payment game?
IdleBystander Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I have a question. Will this game be free to play or single payment game or monthly payment game? Single, one-time payment. You buy the game and it's yours. Like Star Citizen.
