Jay Gatsby Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) The thickness of the wood of guns ports is unreal, and therefore models of the ships need to be modified. HMS Victory lower deck wood thickness: 558,8 mm(22 inch) Waterline wood thickness: 610 mm (24 inch) USS Constitution lower deck wood thickness:482,6 mm(19 inch) Waterline wood thickness: 530 mm (21 inch) Naval Action HMS Victory HMS Victory USS Constitution http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/videos/how-to-stop-a-cannonball/17510 Edited April 6, 2015 by Captain Jack Aubrey 4
Jack Freedom Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 interesting. I've seen the wood thickness in some of the ship being unbelievably thin.
Jay Gatsby Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 It is too thin, hopefully devs can fix it. I would like to understand why the developers did not follow the plans of the ships
Jack Freedom Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I would like to understand why the developers did not follow the plans of the ships I believe it's because of the damage models. They have been reworking them.
Jay Gatsby Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 I believe it's because of the damage models. They have been reworking them. Do not think it's for the damage model, because that's just an aesthetic effect.
Aragorn Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It is too thin, hopefully devs can fix it. hopefully.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I would like to understand why the developers did not follow the plans of the ships Have you ever actually seen a plank by plank blueprint of one of these ships, complete with dimensions of each cut of wood? While there may be line drawings and rough shapes, with the exception of a few preserved ships, that's all they have to go on. 1

Ships that I mentioned are currently preserved, so it does not seem so difficult create accurate 3D models, maybe if we only talk about the plans without ships preserved, then I can understand, like for example the HMS Bellona,And then how did they create the damage model 4.0 if they did not have accurate data? mirror452 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Pretty sure that this (imo) minor detail was just overlooked in the process of the modelling. Keep in mind that you can't make everything a mindboggling masterpiece of art if you expect to make money with what you are doing.
Mirones Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 if the surprise would have this modeleld you would share the same opinion of the royal navy back then that she is to narrow for even 9lb guns and ingame she has currently 12lb mainly because we didnt ha a 12lb frigate to counter the Trinco. and is one of the reasons why people think the Cerberus does not enough damage. and after seeing the quality of the reworked Bellona and the New Ship ( Renomme) you can count on it that the old Models will need to be over hauled. exept Victory.. she is plain and undetailed as she was back then. old bellona vs new bellona. steady as she goes... and dont forget that some models are now over a year old an this means alot these days compared to the görius days of AoE and EE lan-partys
