Crimguy Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I've been lurking for a bit. Game looks pretty nice at this stage. I have a couple questions I've been having trouble answering. 1) Boarding actions - Looks to be very abstrated at this point - just choose between fire/defense/offense? As a major power like England do you keep a complement of Marines? 2) Crew experience - does this play a part? 3) Do you take ships as prizes? Is there an economic model of sorts? Am I going to have an agent? Looking forward to what's to come... 1
Jeremiah O'Brien Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) Ahoy there, and welcome aboard! Hopefully I can answer all your questions sufficiently. 1) Boarding is basically a rock-paper-scissors mechanic at the present. It is expected to be changed in the future, the current model is more or less a placeholder. Marines are not currently in-game, but they are being considered. 2) Crew experience is currently nonexistent, but will play a role in the Open World. Crew will be hired. 3) Ships will be captured in the Open World. Economy will have a role in the game, and ships will be crafted by players, with resources collected by players. The game is currently in a PvP deathmatch only mode, but the Open World will be released soon. If you want to get in the game now, get involved in the forums, and send an email to info(at)game-labs(dot)com explaining your interest in the game and enthusiasm to join. If you are lucky, they will send you a link so you can purchase the alpha version of the game. The game is great as it is, and It's shaping up to become even better. If you love the Age of Sail, I highly suggest you consider this one Edited April 5, 2015 by Jeremiah O'Brien

Defense beats Attack and attack beats fire. 2) We currently do not have crew experience 3) You can take ships as prizes but this is a feature saved up for later once we have the open world mechanism. I dont think you can be an agent or have agents working for you. This is more of a naval combat kind of game. Edited April 5, 2015 by Jack Freedom
Crimguy Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Interesting. From watching the videos online it looks like boarding is a tactic to quickly take a ship where you have a man advantage but (at least in the example I saw) results in a stripping of your ability to fight if you lose a lot of men in the process. I hope they get the capture/prize feature sorted out to give us an incentive to take them alive ;-D I have to say I liked a lot of what I saw with the sailing/gameplay model. Been sailing for 35 years and it's nice to see something that is not dumbed down too much. Maybe voice-command support (with my best British accent) would be fun . . . I know my kid would love that.
