montyrattus Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I was playing a random PVP game today and despite having played 300+ games this is the first time I have seen them, they were not armed or properly rendered but I got them on video. Did the devs make a mistake or did they forget to tell us they were releasing them so soon? Maybe I have been blind the entire time? 1
Saintduiex Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 They were release and tested months ago. Sounds like they may have added them back into the map pool
TheJRT Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Haven't played 300 games but I did sse them at least 10-15 times. They are armed with 5 12pndrs if im not mistaken and you can capture them with you crew. Nice music in the video btw JRT
Arvenski Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) That got me thinking. We post all kinds of drawings and pictures of ships; shouldn't we do the same thing for fortresses and batteries from the same era? Perhaps the devs could get inspiration from those kind of things for making the fortresses that'll be ingame? Edited March 30, 2015 by Arvenski 2
TheJRT Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 They have 7 24lbers. Pardon my mistake, I wasnt too sure they were 5 12lbrs when I wrote it, seems my feelings were right JRT
montyrattus Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 How do you fire one at a time? Spacebar, very useful for ranging your target.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Forts are pretty broken right now, generally your fellow players in a match prefer you don't use them. There's no rule about this, it's just a courtesy thing. 1
thomas aagaard Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Pretty much heavy sniperguns that can hit at very long range. You are a very small target (a SOL will only hit with a small part of a broad side). And when you do get hit you can take a beating. So pretty OP atm. 1

It's only really "acceptable" to use them if you're sinking or too damaged to do any good.
Chromey Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 forts can only hold 200 men. They are also easily boardable unlike moving ships.
kang Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 You can just sail away from them but if you end up way downwind of them, they can be a real pain to get back up to finish off. Beware the quick exit and plan your approach to cut them off if they do...
admin Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Forts are in prototype stage There will be several types: small, medium, large. They can be manned personally or by NPCs. Players will be able to invest in them to protect their ports. 6
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 As a port protection mechanic, they're absolutely brilliant. Exactly what I'd like to see protecting a port. As a random encounter match, they're pretty overpowered. 1
