CJFlint Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 To begin with I'm a player of POTBS and Age of Pirates. Love the age of sail genre with not doupt. I love naval history. Now I also play rise of flight regularly and I am vary vary impressed with the attention to detail. An incredible flight simulator. Probably my fav ever. I saw a this game was being made and by some of the same guys that made Il2 and Rise of Flight....I about fell out of my chair lol. Finally!! Finally!! A really good age of sail game!! I played POTBS for around 3 1/2 years and age of pirates 2...it always felt like something was missing from it...and not quite like the books I read. If a age of sail game could be made, with the same level of detail as rise of flight....possibly even more. With a true sense of adventure and romance of the age. Id say you guys at game labs have a true hit in the works here. Sorry to sound like a geek but I'm pleased to hear about this!
adambomb Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I totally agree with CJFlints Post. Just please get it made.. As soon as you offer it for sale or beta , alpha or what ever I'll take it..lol You ships look already great.
Ntweedie2007 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 +1 from me here! Nice to see familiar names from PotBS here too ^^ I think you guys will have a strong experienced player base at launch by the looks of things.
Shark Aumakua Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Aye, looking forward to sailing with my PotBS mates... or against!
Drdan42 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I Played potbs for about 5 years. I am very excited to see this genre coming back to life..as are alot of people I've sailed with. Game looks great so far
CJFlint Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 One of the things that really captured my interest in Naval Action is not just that someone is making a new age of sail game, but who was making it. Some of the same people who made Rise of Flight...and Il2. These are 2 of the best combat flight simulators of all time. Some really well done detailed games. kick *** flight sims. Lets put it this way I've been playing rise of flight since 2009. They have been patching and adding DLC content ever since. Expanding the game more and more. Adding airplanes, maps in game items. Rise of Flight is one game I have no complaints about, which is pretty rare. It is a good example of how a online game should be ran. Rise of Flight is about the most intense PvP I have ever seen. Pretty amazing unforgiving dog fights. None of this who has best build stuff or what class is the best. Your either skilled at flying or getting shot down lol I noticed its pretty humbling for people including me, I don't see the type of trash talk that you do on on other games. You get a look at how tough it was to be a pilot in WW1. I think it really cool. So I'm really optimistic and think this will be a pretty really cool age of sail game! I have a feeling they will knock it out of the park on this one. Also in regards to POTBS and people who played who were naval history buffs (geeks). This will probably be the game we have been looking for. A true age of sail game with detail. Made by people care about quality. I hope to see more faces from POTBS.

We would like to downplay this. as both of those games had huge teams and they played minor roles. We also would like to downplay the fact that some of the leading team members and consultants also worked on leading roles at City of Abandoned Ships, World of Warplanes, several biggest casino games in Europe, WOT for consoles etc. We believe that in video games - previous experience is no indicator of future success. And sometimes it is even a bad thing.
Hamm66 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Downplay if you like Admin but what you have so far looks brilliant! I am very excited and will remain so. I had to wait for the invention of the PC to start to see my imagination come to life so I can wait a little longer. But I am thrilled to see another part of my imagination taking shape in the 'real' world of video simulation (if that makes sense). I cant wait to give it a go (but I will of course)! 1
Jalapeno Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The title of this thread says it all.. Can't wait to see this come to life.
Bartolomeus Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 1+Hi all, this game project sounds and looks really amazing! I'm a great fan of this era of naval history. Looking forward to an really good age of sail game. Marko
Chustler Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 +1 here! I don't think I have ever been this excited for any title honestly. I really hope these guys can pull it off.
Sindrio Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Agreed. Seeing who is developing the game really caught my interest. I have no doubt that this game will be worth it! Also, Offtopic question; What game engine is the game beeing developed on. Did a brief look here and there and can't seem to find an answer
Oneironz Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 The engine that is being used by the developers is Unity, it delivers great graphics and fast prototyping. Here's the official webpage, if you wish to know more about it. http://unity3d.com/
Killick Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Let me also +1 this. I found out about this only a few days ago and I'm extremely excited. I guess what would be an important measure to me is how long a typical encounter will take in NA. Back when I played SH3 at max. realism, I could spend hours chasing a single transport, tracking its course, positioning myself, closing in slowly. By the time I finally fired the torpedo my heart was literally racing: a dud would render all my efforts worthless. So thrilling! It didn't matter that the target was only a small transport, it was the hunt that counted. In PotBS, on the other hand, I could easily sink 20 ships in an hour. So my 2 cent message to the devs would be: don't make encounters too short. Allow players time to chase each other for an extended time, trying to shake the other off during the night or by waiting for favorable winds. Let them shoot the bow chasers, trying to hit a spar in order to gain half a knot so they can catch up half an hour (real time) later. This way, when the action finally starts, the outcome will really count. Just because you spent time and effort working towards it.
