I have always been a fan of this era. When I found PoTBS (Privates of the burning sea) I thought I had found the perfect MMO for me. The ship combat however was underwhelming and full of magic repairs and magic attacks. Crew would be reborn and sails repaired within minutes of their destruction. Hull breaches plugged and load times shortened at the expense of reality. What I had longed for was not in that game.

I imagine a 1700's sailing game were your ability to maneuver using the wind is paramount. Where broadsides are loaded in real time and shot without the aid of unrealistic additions. Iron balls that damage their targets as a normal shot would. Crews that are not resurrected, ships that don't sail straight into the wind and sails made of canvas. I want play that places thought before reflexes.

If I can trim my sails and pack my hull better then my opponent, who has the same ship, then I deserve to have a slightly faster or better turning ship. If my crew has trained longer and harder then his, then I deserve to shoot slightly faster and better then him. SLIGHTLY...I am hoping that this is the game that requires more of its captains then the ability to slam the keys. I am hoping this game puts me on the deck of a wooden schooner with nothing but my knowledge of seamanship and reality to count on.

I don't think you'll get a lot of what you want here.  Sails and masts can still be restored within like one or two minutes using a "repair kit"  and I don't think they are going to get as detailed as trimming the sails and packing the hull.  One of the devs told me "A captain doesn't worry himself with such matters" or something when I was asking if we could move around the ship and fine tune it.

This will be the most realistic age of sail game to date, but I'm not sure they are going for THAT realistic.  (Even though I'd love it)

This game requires skill.  Yes, there are repair kits, but this isn't mashing numbers but takes skill in maneuvering/positioning and shooting.  Once you lose crew, they are out of the battle.

Same. I'll definitely be playing in the future, I'll hang around the forums first though. I've been playing a lot of World of Warships, but WW2 ships just aren't the same, and most engagements are 10-20km away.

We always used to make fun of close range battleship broadside fights as "this isn't world of sailing ships!"

I hope this game actually offers that.

It offers that and SO much more!Remember that Naval Action is still VERY young in its Development life.Have a look at what the Devs hope to integrate on the Forum and i am sure you will be impressed.I know i was!

Nice to know. I'll see if I can get into the game with the next pre order thing. Helping out in development is always nice
