StuffinBeard Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Is there an actual mechanic for the calls in game atm? I've just been able to watch youtube gameplay so far. It's very cool with the calls and all I was just curious have any of you been able to tell different calls correspond to your different commands? In the wiki here it shows some of the reasons for a call but of course they don't have a sound file to tell what each one sounds like. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boatswain%27s_call
Sir Cloudsley-Shovell Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 If you can get hold of Manual Of Seamanship (i forget what BR Number it is)they have ALL the calls in there. This may be of help. http://www.godfreydykes.info/NAVAL_PIPING_FROM_BEGINNING_TO_END.html 1
StuffinBeard Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Thank you Sir Cloudsley-Shovell! That is very good info I really like the explanation of what a call sounds like!
Grim DeGrim Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) Do you mean historically, or in game. In game, it has meaning: One Whistle when a gundeck is near loaded. One Whistle when in proximity to a ship. Two quick Whistle when a collision is imminent. I'm sure there are more, but these are the ques I listen for in game. Often I'll hear my opponent's whistles, and that can be a hint of what they're doing (guns loading, change of crew focus, etc). Edited March 15, 2015 by Grim DeGrim 2

Thanks I was wondering if you could understand the calls in game. That is great to hear. I was hoping they made sense. In videos I havnt really been able to notice if they were certain calls or not. I will try to pay more attention and learn the calls.
Sir Cloudsley-Shovell Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 \if you know of someone that is in the Sea Cadet Corps,on their website they have a list of Calls.IIRC when i was an Instructor in the SCC they had Boatswains Call Competitions.
