FPS Problems

I seem to have some FPS issues that I can't resolve. They started a few days ago, I was playing the game in the morning and when I rebooted in the afternoon, I went from a steady 60fps at all times down to 3fps whenever a ship was on screen(main menu, ship builder, and battles). I'm not sure if this is the place to post this but I've run out of ideas and the only post I saw with the same issue ended with the person just living with the poor fps. So far to try and fix it, I have done a fresh reinstall, manual file deletion, deleting my saves, changing the graphics, tabbing out and back in, as well as starting a new game with nothing working and all my drivers are up to date. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated!
