Uggh... No. A ridiculous white elephant.

Too expensive, too sluggish, too much top-hamper to be practical. Fire power would not be significantly above a well designed 120, but it would cost nearly twice as much to build.

With the 'tapering' of sail area (3rd rates carrying nearly as much as 1st rates) the increased resistance from wetted area and displacement wave making would make her able to make no more than 6ish knots, compared to Victory at 9+

It is not true because the Santisima Trinidad goes faster than the Victory (13.4 knots), because it is longer, and the Duke of Kent is longer than the Santisima (like the Commerce de Marseille), then I would not worry speed, and if you go to see the HMS Duke of Wellington (73 m and 6000 tons) is longer and heavier than the Duke of Kent.

Duke of Wellington was also a sail and steam warship.

I understand the general concept of longer ship equaling more speed, but there is a lot that actually goes into a ships speed.

Without it actually being built my immediate impression is that such a design would be very top-heavy.  It may have worked, but I just don't see the need for what amounts to a dream sketch of a ship that wasn't built when there are so many other very real ships.

I don't know why we *need* a ship larger than our current first rates.  What would it really offer that we don't already have?  Would we then (as soon as this is added) begin talk of some 200+ gun ship to make the game even more 'original'?

Honestly, I suspect the sailing qualities of such a large sailing ship.  I however guess I could see her as some sort of special in game "boss" ship for PvE or for events or something.  But players running around in her?  I don't see the need.  Maybe after the game has matured the conversation could be renewed.

The steam engine was added later, but not unbalance the game because it would be less maneuverable, and then if developers add this ship will be enough not to use it for those who do not want to use it, I doubt that in the open world, people will use the Santisima or Commerce de Marseille because they are less maneuverable then why have added? They could not put them, after all I do not think that the Santisima will be so different from the Duke of Kent as maneuverability, so why not?

In the videogame...

I'd be shocked if the real one every exceed 6 knots in any moderate weather.

useless offtopic poll she will never come ingame, closed

This ship existed only on paper. And can seriously ruin the balance of combat - as in this case Victory becomes a mid level ship
