hi, I am new to the game and the forums, so I don't know if this was asked before or not...I am playing a Japanese 1890 campaign, and currently I am in september of 1911 - but my ships are still running on coal...when do i move to oil? are the tech progression random? I checked via jsoneditor that the engine is researching turbo-electric drive which is 1919 tech...

i keep my research investment at 100% and haven't used priorities...

Semi-oil, Full Oil 1, Oil 2, and Oil 3 are all researched in the Boilers tech tree branch. Exactly when you get them in the campaign will vary a bit depending on tech budget and priorities, but if you start in 1910 you will at least have Semi-oil.
