So I was playing a PvE game just now to try out the new privateer and figure out boarding. Said and done one other player joins in, "fine, a brig for support" I thought.

Enter the battle vs two privateers, I get up close and personal with the furthest privateer as I know Brigs are slower then me - grape shot the enemy privateer abit, board it and capture it.

The Brig player is still busy with the last privateer to I sail over there to help - I one salvo, and the Brig player starts go ape and calling me less desirable names and a greedy kill stealer.

The brig fire one broad side on the enemy, it starts to sink and I ram it for good messure - confused about what I did wrong.

In the chat after the game, I asked what I did. And he called me a kill stealer and so on again, promising to kill me if I ever sail with or against him again.

So, is there some code I'm not familiar with in this game, I usually go for "if it's red it's dead" and just kill all the enemies I can. Can't say I particular care for the numbers.

Kills dont count for anything in this game there is no reason to care who got the last hit in.

But then the way people who play pve think is alien to me.

Nope, you did nothing wrong.

There isn't really kill stealing in this game. Kills are awarded by damage done. I'm not sure what happens if you capture a ship though, whether it is given to the player who captured the ship or the one who did the most health damage.

edit: Elysion, beat me to it. You did nothing wrong.

Also, like your poll implies, this is a team game, whether pvp or pve.

Who ever you played with is an idiot.

It is the enemy you shoot it.

Also kills have no effect in the game so it is really stupid to worry about them.

Report him to the devs. Clearly he should not be in a game that is not yet finished.

There is nothing wrong with assisting a team mate and sinking the enemy vessel. You did nothing wrong.

Calling you less than desirable names is not allowed though.

There is no kill stealing in teambased games. The people that claim this are mostly young players that grew up with the child-infested FPS titles where its normal to throw insults around.

Woah, I looks like I'm in the clear! I just wondered if there was some kind of "code-of-conduct" I had missed.

I don't care about reporting such things, also I didn't take any screens or so - buuuut if he says true to his word about murdering me even if we are allies, I'll be sure to get some screenshots!

And correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall getting a kill on a ship I boarded and captured pretty sure nothing is recorded? It just ceases to be an enemy

I've got the kill before on a ship I boarded. I also did the most damage to it prior to boarding, so I don't know which gave me the kill. I assume the damage.

Maybe I hadn't done the most damage to it .

Be interesting to find out who would get the kill then or if one is awarded at all if your shot did the most or the least damage.

Not that it matters at present game play but might in open world.

Anyone know the answer?

I haven't been here very long and am still processing all of the unwritten rules.

I understand that it is a very passionate community with some high expectations that people intuitively know and understand how to conduct themselves in game.

There seems to a boat load of hate here.  I wonder if it will develop into a sea of hate.

I'm happy if a fellow player gets in a shot for some damage points as the situation sounds like the brig wouldn't have gotten another shot off before the AI sank anyway. Besides like others have said kills really don't count for anything presently

Seriously a post about killstealing in a "game" (test) where the KILL does not count anything?

The internet simply is too greedy and ignorant.

The player who did the most damage to the enemy ship will get the kill. not the one who sets the "killshot"

get over this and play the test. Its not about kills. Its about damage.

I was in the lobby when you were having this argument. even then hearing the other guys side it clearly sounded like you were 100% in the right.

I actually find the race for that last 'prize' between the team is quite a fun part of the game, wouldn't want anyone to leave it for me.

Since this is a poll, this topic keeps popping up in the list of topic containing unread posts. Having a post about kill stealing on top of the forum might leave the false impression that kill stealing is actually an issue in the game, while it is not, as is made clear by both the poll results and the comments in this thread.

The topic served its purpose and to stop this the false impression that kill stealing might be considered a problem, I close this topic.
