I'm wondering where all the players have dissapeared too. In the last 48 hours I haven't seen more than 90(peak) people online and seeing an average of about 45, yet the same time last week it was edging on 300 online(peak) and an average of about 100 (through the day).

Has something happened for people to lose interest in playing?

If these low numbers continue will the devs consider opening up pre-orders again to bolster the active player base?

It is getting hard to play/progress when pvp consists of 2-3 ships a side and pretty uneven for the most part. As there are soo few people online it makes it hard to get the ships you need to make it an interesting fight, not just a 1 sided stomp for who ever has a 1st rate ect. ect.

Also is there anyway of finding out when the most active time of day is?

Any legitimate help on this topic would be great.

Yesterday i got some pretty good trafalgar battles with some guys in the TS the battles were of 40 people, after 8pm GMT+0

I was in a Trafalgar yesterday and we got slaughtered, bad. we lost 4 Santisima's, like 6-7 Victory's and 3 Bellona's and sunk 1 enemy Bellona. I could not believe our side lost so badly.

Well you see most people have got the santisima and there is nothing left for them to do, so they are waiting for open world, some are on holiday, some are getting bored with it and have moved on and are waiting for other things to merge.

Yes I do agree with you numbers are dwindling downwards I am up most of the day every day and monitor the forums as how many are on, and your correct its getting lower.

I check this Forum out every day. Since I have progressed to the Brig, I've been playing in pve in order to sharpen up my non-existent sail handling credentials.

Yesterday, I played in my first storm, exhiliarating doesn't do it justice, well done, Devs!!

I feel that the Gaming Public fall into 2 camps, the Grognards and the Role Playing Shooters.

Grognards, like me, are probably more patient in waiting for new game, whilst RPS crave the action and need progress to be speedy. Once you can show your basic philosophy on  Open World everyone will settle down.

Just my opinion

People are busy and a lot of people get bored of the same thing over and over. Testing always goes like this, think of it as a wave with peaks and valleys.

I purchased Dec 26. I logged about 250 matches (140ish hours). What I'm finding now is a single match a night is enjoyable.

If many recent pre-orders are in similar state, then it is patiently waiting for the next new content.

Been playing PvE everytime I get ingame, trying to get da damage in quickly.

For smaller ships they don make that much of a difference in big 1st-5th rate battles.

Also, the drop in players is most likely due to players waiting for open world.

You sir must be soooo bored !   :)

Even a small PVP battle is preferable to pve due to youe enemies having more repairs, you can actually outscore in pvp quite easily as you have in effect 3 ships to sink per player....

Well... according to this there are two major groups. So here's the deal: 20:00 GMT (8pm) = 14:00 CST (2pm).

To put in perspective:

Riga (Latvia) / Kiev (Ukraine) 21:00 (9pm)

Amsterdam (Netherlands) 20:00 (8pm)

Porto (Portugal) 19:00 (7pm)

New York (USA) 14:00 (2pm)

Los Angeles (USA) 11:00 (11am).

So as you can see - chances of me playing with/against someone from the USA west coast are slim.

Edit: If you cant imagine layout of these cities on world map - maps.google.com

i understand where the bulk of the playerbase is, and the general time of day of when it's most likely to see people online(it's around 5-6am through to about 10am for me).

but the problem stands with people either:

- getting bored because they have nothing left to do, and are now waiting for new content.

- getting bored of the same deathmatch style battles and only playing 1 battle a day.

- not having time to test the game at length.

now this is creating very low numbers online at any given time, and could be fixed by opening up pre-orders again for a limited time or only allowing pre-orders to Oceanic players. to bolster numbers in other times of the day

I'd come play, but alas i missed the pre purchase date this time round :-(

I get my daily fix from watching pvp youtube vids.. You guys are awesome, thx for uploading. I can't get enough!!!

In my opinion, nothing we can do about it atm. It's completely understandable that people are getting bored. Many people bought this and are treating it like a deathmatch type of game rather than early alpha stage testing.

- not having time to test the game at length.

I could go in too long on this. In short - in my opinion devs haven't give us (the players) enough tools to actually test and debug things on our own and again - it's completely understandable. Reasons being that only few percentage of people would actually want to use them and then even fewer of them who would have knowledge to understand it and yet creating such environment takes a lot of effort. And from a dev viewpoint - people picking around in their game too much isn't too good. There are still ways to do it, but it's all on your own and that takes a long time. edit: p.s. don't even bother asking how because i wont tell anyone else than devs.

It could solve that, but there are too many drawbacks. First and the simplest - more players = more support, maintenance and resources spent on current state = less spent on developing.... considering that GL have very limited resources atm.

Actually what I find weird is that it literally went from 300 to 100 overnight and stayed that way.  I mean yeah I understand getting bored and such but how does everyone get bored all at once?  Only thing I can think of is that having to unlock the new ships drove people back to the game then when they unlocked all the new ships and got access to everything else back, they left.  Guess this might be likely but it does kind of suck as a new player working his way up (me) when everyone was playing and now find it hard to get decent matches.  Basically been doing alot of PvE lately.  Maybe they should have left the pre-orders available just to keep a steady influx of new people to keep the game fresh.

I stopped playing shortly after the addition of the new ships. Getting forced back well prior to where I had advanced to didn't interest me. I couldn't be bothered working back up through the same ships again. The other factor was the change to the PvP game, forcing the smaller ships into PvP Light. That smaller game was just too easily put out of balance by the addition of a single ship type. The games were smaller, and much poorly balanced in the PvP light realm. So I just lost interest as a result.

I still think there are some positive things on the horizon so this isn't meant to be doom and gloom. Its an early access game, so there will be lots of dry times as they finish their content.

you only need to play the new ships. not every ship. once you complete the damage requirements for the new ships, you will find all the other ships you had unlocked will still be that way.

I actually think this is the cause.

Since i got back to Privateer level, it took me a while before i started playing again. That and closeness of the Open World i guess.

It's a shame, as when i got back it was still fun as hell to blow  stuff up but going from a big ship to Privateer might be, 'nah i will just wait untill some bigger update comes - moment for some people

i'm reading the forum every single day waiting for the open world to be launched. I may have continue toi play in arena but going in random team make me sometimes meeting some really bad guys destroying my pleasure to play.

So i make few battle per weeks, i m waiting.

If may come back in arena if:

- Team added

- lobby interface up

-  ship classify by side in arena to see what ship are needed

- changing ship during waiting room possible
