Spoken about in many other topics would the Devs consider the following.

Saving your ship. (Final release version)

Currently at the point your ship is removed from a battle, its sails reduce to zero and your decks are awash.

After a few seconds it starts to sink, or does it ? should it ?

Would this not be the time at which the game could allow extreme survival mode when the entire crew grab buckets, throw guns over the side and save their ship and their lives. Historically it was considered bad luck to learn to swim it was save the ship or drown for many. Ships boats would have normally been cast adrift before battle commences both to save them from damage and also reduce the risk of splinters from them when on board.

There could be a whole minigame where a player reacts to the emergency situation and has to direct their remaining crew and officers to specific tasks and changing emergencies and to sacrifice varying ship equipment and stores in order to save the ship.

If you save your ship perhaps the majority of your crew is saved, if you cannot save your ship, perhaps just some of your crew survive, lashed to rafts etc.

We have to assume that your ship surviving the battle and crew surviving a battle even if your side are defeated  will in the end release game be of some advantage.

I second this.LOL.Would be a shame to lose something so fine, wont it lads?(Pirates of the Carribean movie Reference)

This can also apply to captured ships that have been abandoned by the enemy completely and become prize ships.

Not exactly on topic but I would like to see some mechanic that encouraged someone to abandon ship or surrender if all was lost rather than always "go down with the ship"  Maybe every time you are actually sunk, your character loses experience or something.  Surrender your ship, pay a ransom and keep all XP, die, lose 20% XP something like that.  Also you could abandon your ship in a long boat and if you survive to make it to land, no loss of XP, die and lose 20%

I mentioned this in another thread, but goes better with this one I think.

Maybe there could also be a mechanic so that an ally that's nearby can maybe pick up your dying crew and save them.

But not the captain, captain goes down with the ship  ;)

would be neat to see a few guys holding on to debris . pull your ship over and have them climb up on to yours. Then back into the fray!

Who could resist a sailor in need!?

i think a raft would be a good thing.

If the ship has been destroyed, you will find yourself on a raft. Either one is taken by another Player with or must itself sail his raft to the nearest port.

A raft must not be too quick to get any benefit thereby.

A raft must be indestructible.

two ideas:

1. In the port you can then build a ship or buy a finished if available.

2. Your nation gives a small ship, perhaps to reach another Harbor where you have already completed a new ship.

Just a Little Suggestion.

What do you think?

sorry for my english

:D

I guess the Devs won't do it as it takes too much time to get back on your ship and into the open seas if you have to sail to the next port first, especially if you are far away from land. Still great and funny idea.

Maybe once your 5 points durability are used up? Would not happen as often and make you really feel the loss. ;)
