SilentRob Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) Hi all, Is steep fire ~45° to hit the deck armor possible? In normal, i build shipguns with maximum muzzle velocity. The flightpath of the shell seems verry flat to hit the belt. Is it possible to configurate Main/sec guns with the goal to hit the deck armor with a tall flightpath of the shells? Can is see the maximum fire angle of the gun? Thanks Edited October 19, 2023 by SilentRob
MiWe Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Try a propellant, with lower muzzle velocity and a shorter barrel. You get deck hits if you stay at long engagement ranges but you pay with lesser accuracy since gunrange is afaik the main factor for accuracy. There is no value for the max elevation of a gun afaik in the shipbuilder. You have to experiment in custom battles till you find a setup to your liking.
SilentRob Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) Do you have experience with these kind of guns? Can it be a good taktik or is its not good inplemented in this game? I know, Japan guns was made for steep fire without loses in the range. German guns for example with less steep fire ability. In my mind, this game seems to prefer the older broadside to broadside with low range to hit the belt - taktik. Can you confirm? I think, it should be possible to get the Hood moment with hits from above. The Bismark has not guns with low muzzle velocity and are able to hit the Hood on the deck. MiWe Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 In my opinion accuracy is King. If you can land hits, even partial pens, the damage instability on the target will ad up. A devastating Main deck pen can be a gamechanger. But getting pummeled on the way in and hoping for a lucky 6% hit while your opponent has a consistent 20% Hit chance with longer ranged guns, your instabillity will ad up and your ships will get shredded. In campain Mode you could try this since you will be better at Research than the AI. So you could try plunging optimised Mk 4 guns while the AI trys to Hit you with mk2s.... Just give it a try and share your results
Dave P. Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 In all honesty, I've had most of my luck in Campaign mode just fitting ships with immense amounts of mk4/5 secondaries. (Or primaries for cruisers.) A few hundred HE hits will sink a BB via fire damage, without ever penetrating the armor. 1
