Hardlec Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I am askes to choose to enter battle. My enemy has a couple of small fast ships, I have a big task force including old, slow battleships. I'll never catch the enemy, but "withdraw" is not an option. Real time will be wasted. I'd like to select which ships go into battle. Like send 2-3 DDs after a single enemy DD, and leaving the 18 knot BB's home.

I mean, you don't just split off your 2-3 Destroyers and chase down the enemies while your battleships plod along??? There is zero time wasted. You just have some ships moving slower than others. I build my battle groups in a way that elements can be split off and the core BG is still well defended. It only takes a little planning BEFORE you get into a battle. Not during. EG my 32knt Battle-cruiser has an escort of 3 34knt CLs and 8 37knt Destroyers. enemy force is destroyers, I separate off 4 of my destroyers to give pursuit (unless it is a superior force... then I turtle down a bit. The Battle-cruiser still has its 4 Cruisers and 4 of the 8 destroyers screening it so if somehow an enemy destroyer gets through I have a defense. I think the bigger point here, is the AI should withdraw from battle itself so we don't have to deal with "Oh crap the enemy destroyers are just straight running away and I don't have ships fast enough to catch them." If the AI decides to commit to battle, they can not just Run away from the start.
Candle_86 Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 What makes this more annoying is even though they flee your ships all go back to Port 1
Hardlec Posted September 20, 2022 Author Posted September 20, 2022 Here's my point of view: My fleet will hold cohesion. My DDs will not get too far from the rest of the fleet. So my fleet moves as fast as its slowest ships. What I'd like to see isa list of ships that can engage as so: DD Pinafore 1000 tonnes Sp. 22 75% structure, 100% flotation DD Bounty 1000 tonnes Sp. 32 100% Structure, 100% flotation I can choose Pinafore, or Bounty, or both. Right now I have no choice, I must take both. If my opponent is an enemy destroyer, I'll never catch it. I'd rather select the Bounty and leave the Pinafore lay back.
