Joe Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Disagree completely with pirate CQI, desperation doesn't make you elite it makes you sloppy and prone to making bad choices. A unit of well trained Marines be they British, British but of Kings German Legion, or American. All would be far more effective based both on training and esprit de corps and equipment. The ability to hold a line on a ship deck, load quickly and fire effectively would weigh much more on a battle than yelling avast ya me Hardys and gripping a blade in your teeth. I can think of very very few instances in my reading where a pirate gang was able to hold its own against a trained sailor or Marine and being boarded by either would almost always mean certain death or capture for the Pirates. Lastly Pirates had little access to the better weapons that would be available. Rifles, though rare at the time were available and used by special troops who could be quite effective and shooting from the top of the masts or crows nests netted shots that would take out the enemies officers or leaders.
Grim DeGrim Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 It is a neat concept. I like. I don't know enough about how the mechanics of it should work, but the title (CQI) sounds impressive.

Yes, the pirate side of the concept needs more work - but what do you think about the general idea?
Joe Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Excellent idea really, the CQI could be altered based on initial crew quality. The stats would not be that hard to create with a base crew CQI. Additions of elite commanders (your level and reputation) along with crew type, training and other misc would give you the statistics needed to decide the outcome of a fight. Your ideas on crew unhappiness are great to though they weigh more heavily on pirates and privateers. I'd say your onto something.
