UI not rendering in battle

The UI renders in the ship designer but when I load a custom battle there is no user interface, just the sea and ships. The battle starts and you can select a vessel and click on the sea to have it sail there and the guns automatically target and shoot but there is never any of the UI buttons or displays that the in game help (which can’t be accessed in battle) discusses. Has anyone encountered this or have a fix? Thank you.

I have the exact same problem. Builder works fine, battle has no UI, I can't even make it start. Sometimes pressing random keys gets it to go as you describe, but that can take 10 mins.

 

Also the builder loads fine, but the battle 'loading' lasts for ever (literally ). If you hit a key anyway, you get the above.

 

PC is way above required spec and I uninstalled and reinstalled on 1.03 today. No difference.
