Punisher_1 Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Silly, absolutely silly. Either is it not right (game mechanic) or grossly overrated. While I put British ships on the bottom of the ocean almost on a level you can make a bridge to Germany from the dover cliffs It means nothing. The actual real elimination of ships means almost nothing...... While Power Projection allows the enemy fleet to blockade my ports and even though I have ships at sea and destroy the Brits in every engagement It means nothing at all? If I do not have to use battleships because I can make Battle Cruisers, Cruisers and Destroyers highly effective I'm penalized for this? If there were newspaper headlines in the game it would real Germany sends another 2500 to 10000 sailors to Davey Jones Locker followed by the tonnage of warships and transports I just sunk. It would be humiliating to the opposing forces because this happens many turns in a row. 1
Landoval Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 I had the same Problem, but as fare as i know now, Power Projection is mostly restrited by the operatiolan range. Mabe you did the same as me and only build minimal Range Costal ships?
Danelin Aruna Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 if your effectively engaging BB's with CC's and making it out with out losing ships then they need to reexamine game balance. But i agree power projection is a little iffy, i also go for fewer better quality ships. Always get blockaded and always win the war

They can spread out and cover a lot more area (known as Power Projection.....) so sounds exactly right to me. And if your ships have been built with under 10,000KM range, well that again means they can't project power, just defend your ports. Killing a few enemy ships means very little if your ships don't have the range and numbers to escort your transports to your ports. This is exactly what Germany did to the UK during WW2 using u-boats despite the fact the RN was much larger than the German navy at this point.
Norbert Sattler Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 In the current campaign 10000 km range is unnecessary overkill, due to everything being restricted to around the British islands. I don't know the real-world ranges, but I have already seen ships I designed with about 5000 km range fight on Ireland's and Spain's coasts when playing Germany. Except for DDs and TBs I build pretty much all my ships with minimum range and haven't noticed any negative effects of this compared to when I tried to keep them at or near 10k range. One thing I did notice however is that there appears to be a minimum time for a blockade to run of 9 month. I've yet to see a naval blockade that lasts shorter than that. In a particularly peculiar game where the enemy was close to bankrupcy and I scrapped or mothballed all my ships to not have them capitulate just yet, we both ended up with no ships for a couple of month. Then they brought a single TB into service, which caused a blockade (pretty ridiculous in it's own right... ) with a power projection of 0 to 1. When I reactivated a couple of my ships the power balance went to 900-something to 1, but the blockade kept going for nine month anyway. But then I've also had a case once where the enemy's blockaded me and I blockaded the enemy at the same time, having two parallel blockades of each other. Then agian that was several patches ago before they enabled the Steam Beta feature I think.

I would love if AI decided now is time for all out offensive and gave me choice take battles stronlgly in ouer favor or stay in port and loose transports, but no. Game may not give you ANY battles in a moment in which enemy ships should be camping outside your ports. So there is that Over all i assume that this is pure place holder for now, and will be changed soon, so no reason to worry i guess We just need to stick with it untill something better is implemented.
Bishop120 Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 The extra range means that you are projecting power out into the ocean where the enemy ships cant reach you to blockade their transports.. The longer the range the better the power projection. Yes the transports are safe while inside the range of your ships and you will get missions to save them occasionally but the ships outside that range will get sunk. On the other hand I do agree that its silly mechanic as currently implemented because if I can block all your ports then I dont need to sink the ships out in the ocean. While they may be able to project more range than me it shouldnt matter if I can stop all their transports near their ports and sink all their ships before they get out to deep water. I do hope they change the battle generator to help moderate this mechanic.
