Ghroznak Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Several people love this game and spend quite a few hours streaming it. Personally I've been enjoying the game quite a lot and try to stream whenever I have the time. I know other streamers do to, e.g. http://www.twitch.tv/O_Dingo77, http://www.twitch.tv/sidestrafe, http://www.twitch.tv/Gratznov and many others. There's also quite a few people who have posted youtube videos and such of the game, like Ramjb who provided many informative videos. Frontier did something nice in Elite Dangerous by putting up the top 5 twitch streamers on their front page https://www.elitedangerous.com/. I was thinking that this could be a nice two way street for both the streamers and Naval Action / Game Labs by having the top 3 or 5 streamers shown on the front page of Naval Action as well. That way new players who only just discovered the game could immediately pop into one of the active streams and get a live impression of what the game is about rather than just images and pre-made videos, plus those streaming the game would also get some viewers with an interest in the game. Maybe this is a bit too early (given the game being in alpha testing still), but if so then perhaps it could be an interesting idea for later in the development stages. I really believe that between the youtubers and the streamers this game has gotten quite a bit, and well deserved, attention. To the point where we are now stopping pre-orders because of the influx of players Thoughts? Edited February 17, 2015 by Ghroznak
Guest raat Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Promoting twitch streams is great for exposure. However, that being said, given that this community is trying to garner a specific type of player community (one of gentlemanly conduct and honor), I would recommend that GL be selective on who to promote. (Nothing against you, I've never seen your stream) Choose your twitch streamer wisely or the recent trouble might intensify. Edited February 17, 2015 by Raatha
uldo Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 As the pre-orders are off the only (at this moment when i'm typing) big downside to stream promotion or NA promotion in general is that it can couse something called "Hype" which isn't that great for the developers. So to be honest - I think it's GL decision to make. On the plus side if the promotion is just enough there won't be any need for it later when more people will be required.... So again, imo, it's GL decision to make - should we (the community), if we wish to, go all out promoting this game at it's current state or not. P.S. That doesnt mean streamers should stop streaming or youtubers uploading videos i could make this reply a lot bigger, but eh... at the moment i'm lazy
Ghroznak Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Streamers and youtubers won't stop uploading content. The Elite Dangerous approach with livestreams featured on their homepage is excellent for new players to see the game 'in action' as well as having an arena where they can ask questions to the chats and streamers to get more information about the things in the game. Was just a thought to make use of the content in a way that benefits everyone for Naval Action as well.

Not sure how framiliar anyone is with Twitch drama, but something just recently occurred that relates to this. A streamer (not to be named) was streaming a new survival game and Sony promoted that streamer on their front page of the survival games launcher. Well, that streamer had a VERY racist type stream and the personel at Sony even admitted they didnt look at his stream before promoting it. That streamer is no longer with us on Twitch (which is a good thing imo), but it does show if this occurs that the developers do need to screen the streamer before promoting. With that said I have personally watched Gratznov and Dingo, and both represent what we are looking for in this community, as far a the type of gamer we are looking for. I have not seen sidestrafe so that is why I could not comment on him. The other thing I have seen on other games sites are not necessarily streams are promoted on the front page of the website, but trusted streamers that the devs like are listed in a locked and pinned forum post. -KM- Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I have seen sidestrafe s youtube videos. That is acutally how I discovered the game after googling for a naval age of sail game. He does a great job and mostly just talk about tactical and ingame stuff. Great videos and I would guess the stream is somewhat similar. But like some allready pointed out. To just show the top 5 streamers (sorted i guess by number of viewers can lead to problems. There would probably be a need for some kind of agreement in order to get promoted there. That the stramer accept to not talk about politics, religion, sexuality etc.... Some rule of conduct in order to be promoted streamer. Other than that I don t see any downside,. 1
Ghroznak Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 I know Game Labs are already following different streamers so they probably have a clear idea of which ones are suitable to be on any frontpage. Anyways, that's all technical details. I just wanted to throw the idea out there, based on the Elite approach on the frontpage, since it would be a great way to promote both the game and the streamer. Personally, in the past 2 years or so I have purchased more games based on watching streamers than I have based on steam promotions and various advertisements. With streamers you get the interaction of asking questions and seeing things live rather than trying to figure out if you should invest in a game based on trailer videos, screenshots and reviews (which are often biased).
-KM- Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) Hi I know there are several nice streams and also youtube videos showing of this beautiful game. I couldnt find a post collecting links in an easy to find way to peoples streams and Youtube but I thought it might be nice to have one. Simply to collect player/and dev made broadcasts and videos of the game for easy acces. If this indeed excist then pls lock this topic and direct me to where I am supposed to go. I do know there s a sticker about Naval Action on youtube on top of this forum section but it is not really a collection of all the nice streams and Youtube chanels out there. I ll try to start of with the few I know myself (and including msyelf all thought my stream is quite hobbylike). There are probably a lot more than the few I listed here. I just tok the first ones who came to my mind. If you think this is a good idea then please ad more in replys and I will include them with name and link to twitch/youtube in the post. Jacques de Montagne Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 There is a sticky thread which got cluttered a bit: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/614-naval-action-on-youtube/ I like your idea collecting links in one post though, maybe we merge and edit the OP accordingly... I have a modest stream myself, I do not like it transmitting teamspeak, so don't use it that often as I could: http://www.twitch.tv/zedmantill

Costanius Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Hi, I'm Costanius and I just recently started with some occasional streaming on twitch in both english and german language. My preferred games are pc simulations, flight simulations, city managers and Sandbox MMOs. I love the Age of Sail and I was a Beta tester in PotBs and made a promo video for that back in the days. So far I have streamed Naval Action twice with a few viewers already and will do it again from time to time. http://www.twitch.tv/costanius
