Skeksis Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 (edited) Sea area battle generation (suggestion). I think there’s an opportunity to redevelop the battle generator from ‘regional battle generation’ to ‘sea area battle generation’. I don’t know if this is already planned or something similar. But I think it’s unlikely, it’s most likely that what will remain is ‘regional battle generation’, as inspired, as current, and as planned, and probably has been the plan all along and won’t change. And port to port movement doesn't really have any practical effect regarding the battle generator choices (well atm). SO, IMO, moving ships from port to port to enforce fleets in that port’s immediate ‘Sea Area’ is far more practical than regional movement alone. This would give the player localized command of ships and fleets. Far more immersive than sole regional movement. It would be much more of a complex system considering the entire global map and how many ports and sea areas that there might be, but not necessary more complicated. Just that it would be strategically better to deploy in such a manor and much more practical, i.e. less randomized ship selection for battle. Details on how it could work: Ports & Sea Areas. Ports and ships directly correspond to their immediate ‘Sea Area’. Battle generation for sea area’s pulls ships from only its associated ports. Ports to have a state of ‘Uncontrolled’ or ‘Controlled’ by nations. Any port can be assigned ships, controlled or uncontrolled. Uncontrolled port assignment is an attack. Uncontrolled ports can only be assigned ships if nation is at war with controlling nation. Player assigns ships to ‘Uncontrolled’ ports to attack the warring nation sea area. This is how the nation advances and/or encroaches on enemy territory. Ships must have range to reach uncontrolled ports (from its current port/location). ‘Sea area battle generator’ decides battle makeup from all ports associated within that sea area, not necessary the entire force present. There can multiple sea area's with conflict, it depends on how many deployments there are from each warring faction. Repairs can only the carried out by controlled ports (nation should have reserves to move to replace damage ships if attacking). Only when nation’s concedes victory can ownership of ports can take place and the victor must have at least one or more ships assigned to those ports in that sea area. And if so, those ports must be listed for takeover selection. Notice to be given to the nation when one of its ports are under attack or have been assigned enemy ships. Reinforcements can be assigned at any time by both sides. Regions. To have a state of: Hostile. When player doesn’t hold (or control) the majority tonnage listed by ports. Holding. When player does hold (or control) the majority tonnage listed by ports. When the region state changes the nation has to reassign ship roles accordingly. Ship Roles. remove 'in being' and 'in control', replace with: Combat Fleet. Can be assigned in either regional state, assignment in 'hostile' region – offensive fleet, in 'holding' – defensive fleet. Convoy Raiding. Assignment for 'hostile' regions. Convoy Défense (or Trade Protection). Assignment for in 'holding' regions. Costal Patrol (Sub Protection). Assignment for in 'holding' regions. Sub offensive automated. There is an opportunity! - for in the new year redevelopment. Edited December 10, 2021 by Skeksis
Nick Thomadis Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Thank you for your suggestion. The ports already control the respective sea regions. So, currently, in order to participate in controlling the sea region, for example the “North Sea” you must have ships in ports that are controlling it. For all the rest, how it is going to work, we need some patches ahead of us to implement. I must say that the roles you proposed are going to work roundly as you said, we will give more special roles for ships. 4

This is going to help us understand the direction of game, thought while understanding it's still WIP, thanks.

Question - I believe I have seen vessels from other ports outside of say, the North Sea, operate in it - from the Baltic for example. Does that mean the Baltic-based ships are...adding onto North Sea vessels when the generator starts a battle there, or can they initiate operations there on their own?
