FREDTIGER72 Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) Good morning all ! Being able to put a barbette in a circular location of the main tower would allow to align 3 batteries of cannons at 3 different levels (heights) and therefore give the possibility of a direct fire of the 3 batteries towards the bow of the ship without hindrance!😉 PS: What would also be great, would be to have barbettes of different heights to avoid having 2 batteries of cannons that get in the way! Cpt.Hissy Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Yes please. But together with the fact that a ship this top heavy will tip over on launch. Let those silly gamers build their gamer ideas, and see how it doesn't work because it's not a cartoon dammit! Â
HistoricalAccuracyMan Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 While a ship designed like that is likely to be so top heavy it would tip over upon hitting the open ocean, UA:D doesn't even have capsizing ships yet...unless I have severely overlooked/missed something. You can empty a couple destroyers worth of torpedo salvos at a target and the most it will do is lean to whatever side got hit. If you manage to sink it, it sinks in 3 ways: straight down, bow first or stern first. I personally am a fan of the idea (as it would finally allow the building of a ship similar to USS Atlanta), but I do agree that there needs to be some sort of limit or restriction (maybe it causes excessive/dangerous amounts of roll in your ship?) when it comes to stacking multiple main battery barbettes in a line. Another thing that plays into your suggestion is that more tower options that incorporate main gun mounts. 4
Cpt.Hissy Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Oh please no, no combined "towers". We need rather opposite, break parts down to the basic single function elements and simply allow us to combine them in whatever configuration we want. More flexibility, not less. 5
FREDTIGER72 Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 Good morning all ! Thank you for your interest in my barbette topic! As on the cruiser Atlanta or an improbable fusion of the legendary Yamato and his twin Musashi (which I made in MOC Cobi and called KURAKEN (Kraken)! See photo below:
FREDTIGER72 Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021  Hello Cpt.Hissy! Towards the end of the war in the Pacific the Americans had planned to release the new Montana which was to be 5 super battleships with four turrets of three 406mm guns! Longer than the Yamato 260m against 280.57m and also more tonnage than the Japanese battleship: 65030 t against 66,040 t for the USS MONTANA and that with the same belt armor for both ships! You should also know that there are longer ships with more tonnage, eg Symphony of the Seas with 361m and a tonnage of 228,080 t !!! It's all about mass balance! 😉
FREDTIGER72 Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021  The next Chinese aircraft carrier Type 003 (the 3rd) will be released this year and will measure over 330m with a tonnage of over 85,000 t !!! 😉 Â

FREDTIGER72 Posted April 9, 2021 Author Posted April 9, 2021  Sorry, for the letter size because I'm using google translate (I'm French)! 😉  1
