ObiQuiet Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 No doubt everyone who's here has thought about getting an old ship's wheel and hooking it up to the rudder controls. Anyone done it yet? What other ideas for custom controllers are there? With many middle schoolers learning what a Lego position sensor is, and with Arduino and even Makey-Makey kits, there should be a lot of possibilities. Even unusual not-from-BestBuy controllers would be interesting to hear about -- what works for you? Rudder pedals, the 3D Spacemouse? I may pull this old exercise joystick out of the closet -- when the keymapping code is stable -- it would make aiming the guns real, sweaty work. (You can judge the age from game system in the photo :-)
Krasimir Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 make a ship wheel and shout to the crew using voice attack
ObiQuiet Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) Just filing this http://www.controlmyjoystick.com/ here for those who may want to try a 3dConnexion SpaceNavigator The rest of their capabilities are an alternative to Voice Attack. Edited February 15, 2015 by Lt. Obiquiet
Chustler Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I've been thinking it would be fun to turn a hotas throttle sideways and use it as a rudder. Various buttons on it could be hooked up to sailing focus etc. I havnt looked at actually doing it though.
ObiQuiet Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) I'm still a very bad gunner in this game. Practicing as much as I can. But, like any bad golfer or bad tennis player, I place some of the blame on the equipment. ;-) So, I got a Kensington Expert "Mouse" as an interim step to pedal rudder control, etc. Primarily for the big buttons and the scroll ring. (In my armchair set up a traditional mouse isn't ideal.) Here's how I have it mapped right now: Edited February 28, 2015 by Lt. Obiquiet 1
ObiQuiet Posted March 22, 2015 Author Posted March 22, 2015 Another small, relaxed step today. I like to save money until I know exactly what I want. In this case, a $15 non-USB footswitch + old USB mouse = TeamSpeak pedal solution (or firing, or gun view, or...?) StealthSwitch FS-2 Momentary Contact Foot Switch Pedal with 3.5mm (1/8 Inch) Mono Audio Plug - Slave Switch for StealthSwitch3 Link: http://amzn.com/B00QJCAZ1M If only I had a surplus wireless mouse lying around (I looked.... maybe one will come my way.)
Sir Cloudsley-Shovell Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 This could have possibilities, add a few buttons and some wraparound monitors. 1
