christopher1006 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 As the title suggests, I'm looking for the best suggestions on how to improve my computer rig. I'm looking for reasonable suggestions that are cost effective, not "Go buy ten thousand dollars worth of equipment". My goals are to be able to run this game in particular on high with around 60 FPS, preferably without having to build or purchase a new computer. Processor: AMD A8-3800 Socket FM1 Core speed of 2695 MHz. Mainboard: Pegatron Corporation 2ACD Memory: DDR3 8 GB Frequency 665 MHz Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6550D OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 - bit Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
DanielCoffey Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 According to the motherboard spec, you will be using the PCI-E 2x slot that your current graphics card is in for a new one. That is not a particularly fast slot for a graphics card so you will not want to put a really fast card in there or else it will be waiting for data to and from the motherboard all the time but there is certainly room for improvement in the mid-price card range. Your Radeon HD 6550D scores around 2400 on the 3DMark11 benchmark which is reasonable but not brilliant. Modern laptops beat that now but there are still folks here playing Naval Action on much worse equipment. I would suspect that anything higher than an AMD R9 280 is a waste of money on that motherboard although an R9 270 may be worth looking at but assuming you want to stick with AMD, you may get good mileage out of slightly older cards like the Radeon 7950. EDIT : I have been corrected - it is a PCI-E x16 slot which is fine for any current GPU. Thanks for the correction.

I think you misread, it has a gen 2.0 slot(which shouldnt be a bottleneck, that is even enough for a gtx 980 to not bottleneck), i would suggest OP get a r9 280, anything lower you wont really get 60FPS high although an r9 270x might also work, also Daniel, the radeon hd 7950 is just a r9 280 just so you know.
DanielCoffey Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 You are right - I have updated my post above. Thanks.
