Wowzery Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Past couple of weeks I've noticed when ships are put on AI they will head to the edge of detection range and stay there. The ships will circle just out of visual range. I've seen the enemy fleets actually move completely out of visual range when my ship is heavily damaged. Many times the only way I can maintain a battle going is by having the superior speed. Not sure if others have noticed this or not. 1
thewolfpack Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 After watching the stuff the AI does, I started controlling every ship in a battle by myself. AI needs a lot of work imo, but it is an alpha, so its fine.
Right Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 At the moment unless you give them a direct order before switching for ai control they would just do nothing unless they get engaged. You can aither set them a target before or one give them one of the global commands(protect/flag/scout). Hope it helps.

Did a video where at the end its 1v1, my ship can go about 5kts or less, the enemy about 20kts. The computer goes out of visual and then shooting range and stays there, doesn't come back. Last minute and a half of the video. Had to end the video and then played 10-15 more minutes for the enemy ship to come back into range (10X speed) and never did. You can't set a target for enemy ships. If you don't control your ships and have the speed advantage, the computer moves to max range just out of sight where you can't shoot at each other anymore. I didn't notice it that bad until the last patch. Go to about the 30 minute mark to see what I'm talking about (and I'm playing at 5x speed).
Right Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 (edited) Sorry, I thought you were talking about how your ally ships ai working. You are right, mostly the enemy ai would just try to stay at max efficient range. I guess that the ai enemy programed in vanilla style to do what computers do best and calculate based on presentage. Moreover it seems to care more about not getting hit then to get hits on you, probbly because it isn't set to win but to not losing. In more advanced era it seems to be less of an issue due to the ability to repair most engine damage and floods but I see your point. I've played enough to know how to handle this with good ship designs, still it can be frustraiting sometimes. Edited February 6, 2021 by Right
