lordcmdr Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 War on the Sea launched today on Steam. Obviously, it doesn't have a ship designer but it has a US vs Japan campaign and things UA doesn't have like counter-flooding damage control options. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up in combat gameplay.
Cpt.Hissy Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 good attempt on advertisement it's not "competition" as only common thing between two games is both have water and ships. Entirely different otherwise. 2

Entirely different otherwise. Disagree. It’s control scheme and UI is similar. It’s going to get compared by most war gamers. Plus it actually has a mini map :-). It’s just good to finally see another naval warfare RTS.
madham82 Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 More like the modern successor to Greatest Naval Battle series. RTW2 is a competitor. This game just exists in the same genre, naval strategy. It starts out after UAD has finished timeline wise. 1
arkhangelsk Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 I wouldn't call its control scheme "similar" - if anything, UA:D doesn't even allow for manual firing and damage control, and this game seems to allow both. But since there aren't a million games out there in the genre, I'll say it's close enough they'll be fighting for the same basic group of people.
Himbeereule Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I've waited for War on the Sea (and the Cold War equivalent, Sea Power) ever since it was announced, since both are from people who worked on Cold Waters, which I liked quite a lot. I also bought War on the Sea on launch and have played it quite a bit. But as has been mentioned, it's a completely different type of game, and honestly I don't think it'll last long or be very successful - it suffers from the same feeling of being too bare-boned and over-complicated campaign UI as Victory at Sea (Pacific I mean, the first VaS was a bit better but mostly because it had a smaller scope to begin with since you only controlled a single fleet).
