BR PVP matchmaking

I just started playing again after years, I'm level 2 and just got attacked and obviously killed by a team of 3 players with frigates, looking at the crew number they are at least level 6, is it normal for this game? I mean I didn't join any battle or anything, I was just doing a passenger delivery. 

I can't understand how there is not a BR limit or anything, I mean getting jumped by 3 frigates while I'm in a barebones captured privateer looks like free toxcity from the other (russian speaking) players who were actually trying really hard to sink me without getting anything to gain from doing so but ruining my early game literally some hours after I joined.

It's been such a big disappointment that clans are still allowed to ruin the game for new players just some circlejerking fun that I'm clearly unistaling it again, hoped to see some improvement over the years but it seems that 400 players online max still isn't a clear signal to the developers, I wish I never bought this pos braindead game.
