Is it my immagination or do your own troops not block your cannons?

Normally, I try to get the cannons above and behind my infantry to fix the enemy while the guns fire canister.  But sometimes it looks like my guns are no hire than the infantry?

Cannon fire lines are not blocked by other units. The previous game had this feature but it was not carried over for various reasons.
