not saying it's terrible but for a battleship that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen

One of the pre-dread designers temporarily escaped custody. Sorry for worrying you.

No, but seriously, what's up with the weird secondary armament. Seems like somebody got the memo about centerline benefits, but forgot that this is not the pre-dread era.

Also, most worryingly, that one turret that's higher than all the funnels... for some reason? Probably pretty hot in there as well, and near impossible to use local rangefinders.

please god let me put it out of its misery

LOL! That secondary on an absolute spire of a barbette is just too good.

A minimalist and elegant design, maybe a little too much. 2x2 406mm for a 70000t battleship, it looks like "Fire power" prefered to stay at home. :-)

BEHOLD this absolute ABOMINATION of a cruiser. It possesses a single 7in gun forward with almost no ammo, and two torpedo tubes, one per side.

peak colonial defense/power projection design right there. good for the ai

I think someone forgot to mention to AI that this is UA: Dreadnoughts not UA: Age of Sail game.

It's 1910, i was fielding dreadnought by then.

How considerate of the designs to put the guns up on barbettes! Keep them out of the way of the crew. Nobody likes guns taking all that valuable deck space. The captain does like to sunbathe after all.

That's just that hull. A pretty decent one, too--especially for killing transports.

Everything is good for killing transports though.

Well, almost everything, here's the embarrassing moment by AI:

1 6in gun, Austia, this CL I'm not sure is an actual threat to anything

It's a threat to 141 men. A very precision weapon for a very precise task.

Funny that you got that one, as I had one with a single 7in gun made by AH. Must be something in their code...

I haven't played UA:D since core v0.5, yet it both pains and warms my heart that this threat is still going with strong AI stupidity contenders.

It's a weird feeling to constantly hope a thread you've created will just die from lack of content, and yet here we are in the year of our lord 2022~

There have been a few noticeable improvements, but I'd really hoped the devs would rework the AI designer to a template model or something else to make this thread unnecessary. And, presumably, save themselves more time in the long run debugging it every time they change something in the base designer.

Sadly it seems that any incremental fixes just introduce problems somewhere else. The recent trend of hilariously underarmed cruisers has amused me with the (not entirely unfounded) headcanon that they are just repurposed royal yachts of the various inbred dynasties of Europe.

Speaking of royal yachts, here's a handsome 27 knotter from the yards at Brest...

complete with a single 5" regatta starting gun on her foredeck, and very little ammunition to make room for extra champagne to toast your victory!

My britain ally came to help me with a battleship and her escort. She looked like an exalted Nelson, with more and bigger guns. So I looked carefully about her details and I realised I just meet the quintessence of the glass canon concept. I'm not a specialist of ship design, but I think british engineer forgot something, or are a little too confident...😃

well it does mean even a 2in round can overpen and not explode inside the ship, would likley not be terrible at point blank range as long as you can avoid plunging fire

I didn't take the risk and asked her to retreat with all the escort ships while I went and fighted the ennemy BB and 2 CA with my BC alone. This was safer.
