Brigand Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 So, we get to learn more about the open world and how things are shaping up. Let me start by saying: I like what I see so far. Reading We already created a technology masterpiece for the open world. Our Caribbean map is seamless, huge and beautiful and suited for the multiplayer with changing time of day and potentially weather. People demanding more don't yet appreciate this achievement - but they will. Instanced battles will stay because we want deep, skilled and server based combat, not a clicker. and Current open world size is 16 mln square km. It takes 3-4 hours to cover Antilles real time by just sailing on the uber fast ship, it takes a lot more to sail from one side to another. I have 3 questions question: Both the open world and the instanced battles use time compression. Yet, the ratio of this compression varies. This leads me to believe that you can cover more distance in the open world than you can in the instanced battle happening at the same time. 1. Could players in the open world sail a circle around the players in an instanced battle? Thereby effectively bypassing them? 2. Intuitively, working with two different rates of time compression, seems problematic (I haven't tried, so I'm not sure of course). How is this handled in the game? or, why is it not deemed problematic? 3. Is there some plan to enable new players to join an instanced battle, that has already started? Thanks, Brigand
admin Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 If you name things as they are - open world map is a travel map. Some developers choose to visualize is in isometric 2d (city of abandoned ships game), some make it small scale cartoony 3d (potbs). Our travel map is a 3d world. 1. ulysse77 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 like i mentioned in another post, it look basically like mount and blade open world.... time compression, instance battle, size of map But at least in NA the open world will be gorgeous to look at....
Chustler Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Ya so the basic concept is the same as POTBS or mount and blade. It will just be 3d and prettier? So we can assume it may suffer from some of the issues that effected potbs? Squads of gankers waiting outside of battles for the battle to end so they can jump them etc? I'm interested in what these mechanics will be like.
Leviathan Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Paid escorts or friendlies can enter the battle during certain time, after that time passes the battle will be closed and impossible to enter. The time needs to be determined by testing. After you exit the battle you will be invisible and not able to engage in combat for 1 minute. This time will let you disengage on the open map as well. After you exit the battle you will appear on the open world map where you entered it. If you are in hostile waters it will be harder to disengage because of no friendly ports near by.
Chustler Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 The only thing different from potbs in that list is the paid escorts magically appearing in battle with you. I am interested to see how that aspect plays out though.
