fumagalli Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Hello everyone, As many players I sometime see some enemy units routing through my lines, ignoring the losses I inflict them with canister and ending up in melee with my artillery... logically my artillery units in melee with a brigade are torn to pieces within seconds. The number of casualties of my artillery units in melee seems to be a power law or something similar. So here is a suggestion : why not giving to all routing units a similar vulnerability in melee that artillery currently has ? This would nicely simulate the contagion of surrendering within the broken unit.
Aggressive_Kunst Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 iam more frustrated about routing way. straight through enemy lines or into enemy mass instead of running into the free area or towards general. Especially the skirmishers are brilliant suiciders.

Would be very nice if units retreated towards your general
Robbyhouse Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Yeah, it's never actually been explained to me why when a unit has been routed, it behaves in the manner it does. We're all too familiar with a unit turning ghost white, often blinking, and then my favorite, "Hey, let's walk into the ranks of enemy muskets for more punishment!" Yeah, that's a GRRRREAT idea and is like totes realistic and junk! I can save everyone the trouble of searching historic examples of brigades getting utterly obliterated with muske fire and cannon shot and then proceed to aimlessly drift in a sort of stupor into the ranks of enemy units taking on further volleys and K-shot because it didn't happen like that! I've never understood why these behaviorisms have been programmed that way. If anything just freeze the unit in the place of where they go into Route mode until it achieves enough recovery to be directed to a safer place, but the whole floating into enemy ranks makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is in no way reflective of history. Sure there are plenty of examples of disorientation on the battlefield, but this isn't that. 1
