Why... WHY isn't your participation in these battles tied to being in the battle group and not in a clan that has the flag???

I sailed from Ruatan to Turneffe to help place a flag, (my first foray into trying this since it was implemented,) but NO.
Got there and couldn't join the battle. 
 

I can see port battles... but for conquest missions??? Please... build it around the battle group and keep whoever holds the flag on the credit list as the planter of the flag.

We should be seeing more ways for people to come together in this game but there are so many rules that prohibit joining in any (hard to find) fun when invited.
I really wanted to join that conquest mission but couldn't. So far, it's not making a good case for using this system if you have to be in someone's clan to join the battle.

 

I'm the creator of my clan.. and really the only one who logs in any more. Not going to clear the clan warehouse and lose all that stuff we saved just for a conquest mission.

What are you talking about? you don't need to be in the same clan as the person placing the flag. All you needed to do was sail with the group and join as the same time, instead of trying to join late.

No, I was in the group, and we all joined at the same time but it told me I wasn't on a clan list of some sort.

Your clan isnt on the Friend list of the clan that had the hostility.
