iceman_fl Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I am normally not a big complainer, but an admin did just specifically solicit complaints about scenarios, and there was not way to reply directly to that post, so here I am. Let's say I make a destroyer. I come upon a torpedo boat that is only a little bit smaller than my small destroyer. We both have the same size guns, but I have more,. We are both out of torpedoes, so I pull up right beside him (really close) and match him for speed. My hit probability at almost point blank range is something like 0.4%, because... reasons. We trade shots. He hits, I miss. He hits, I miss. He hits, I miss. Eventually my destroyer sinks. My gunners must be drunk! I know that torpedo boats are supposed to be hard to hit, but at this range, I literally could throw a baseball and bean a sailor on the other ship if I was on the deck. And if some gun by chance does hit one of these things, it does almost no damage. These guys just laugh at 5" shells. They barely dent the hulls and don't start enough of a fire to light a cigarette from. And this is not just my designs, I have tried it with many AI designed destroyers and torpedo boats with the same kinds of result. I always thought destroyers were invented to kill torpedo boats, not the other way around. If this has been discussed before I apologize for bringing it up again. I am new to this game and overall it seems pretty good for a game in alpha, I just felt the need to vent on this particular issue. There, now I feel better.

SonicB Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Yep, speed penalty due to a fundamental flaw in the gunnery model. It affects basically the entire game at this point, in terms of what classes to use and how you design them, and yet it seems to be quite low priority on the fix list. Hopefully it'll be addressed before the campaign comes out, otherwise you'll see some pretty ahistorical metas all over youtube and twitch in the first few days.

Skeksis Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 (edited) This issue was brought up very early alpha but there was alot of support for RL accuracies at all ranges, thus it remains. But to the average gamer it makes no sense. However most of the realistic supporters have pack their bags and left, so maybe there might be more support for point blank range accuracies buff. SIze penalty imo should endure more testing....hit rates are too high in general, but finding a way to lower them without something like the speed penalty is difficult.
