Is steam required for the game

I purchased Ultimate Admiral: Age of sails via xsolla

Played through native (not steam) launcher. Recently I checked spam and saw email, about steam key for the game.

The question is: is steam required and native launcher is obsolete, or I can use native launcher forever and I'm not forced to move to steam?
