Sophist Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Wondering if someone from Game-Labs could chime in here and tell us how they are building the game. Is it going to be a secure server based approach, or are they making it a peer to peer architecture and offloading cycles to the client?
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 So far, it sounds like it will be server based, with the server controlled by Game Labs.
Grim DeGrim Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 The waves are server based... So we all get them at the same time (think storm map).
Ankso Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 For what the devs had sais, it's all controlled server-side (even the water), to make it hard for the cheaters.
Sophist Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Server based. P-2-P is mucho anciento. Well, not that ancient. A lot of games still use it, CoD is probably the most wide spread example. But for me it's important because P2P games cannot be protected against hackers, and I don't enjoy playing in that sort of environment. Some folks don't care about that. I get why companies go P2P as the business case isn't that hard to sort out. Not something I'm a big fan of though and I certainly wouldn't spend anything more on the game if it were the path they were planning to follow.

I've heard people say CoD does p2p because it's an easy cash grab for the publishers/devs who can save money building and maintaining infrastructure. so fuck CoD 1
Robert Danforth Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Also CoD isn't exactly a cutting edge, modern game any more.
Jack Feathersword Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 COD never was. (made to make console net coding cheap/easy) They are using server side world servers/front ends. At the moment i get the feeling there is a lobby server/cluster and then battle instances are spawned on other servers. I would like to see some high level hardware/software design or architecture plans for the back end. (it is what i do).
Destraex Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 COD is one of the worst FPS ever. I always for RO2. I still worry though that if ever the servers go down we will need to be allowed to host the dev server. 1
BlouBulle Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 COD? COD AW is like taking COD4, sticking on a texture pack and a few jump jets and lasers and making you pay again for the whole experience. The only thing COD has is a decent SP, MP is worse in the latest 1 then 4 or 6. Here is my verdict for EA and Act-Novision, take your DLC #### and shove it up your @$$#$, frankly I would rather pay a monthly fee for a NEW GAME then pay $60 for the latest Copy of Duty or Battlefield 3 Hardline Edition.
-KM- Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 peer to peer is terrible. Try play CIV V multiplayer and it will become clear very soon why it s***
admin Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Hello Captain As previous posters noted - Everything is on the servers - even water.
