Hi,

anyone has any opinion in this one: (I haven,t done ship building yet, ) in thes game on PVE server: if I start ship building can I lose money ? (Let,s say because I buy the required items too expensive or because I open my shipyard in the wrong port) ? Or the oposite: the profit rate is so high that even if I,m not doing the ship building too professionally, I,ll for sure make profits, like in the case of cargo shipments in PVE server: I can,t lose money there, I can just make money. In other words: in this game, can you always sell your ships built for more money than the amount of money invested in building it (in case you advertise your ship as long as you have to..until someone buys it….and in case you don,t consider your basic investments like price of permits and price of shipyard) ?

Many thanks

I have never built a ship.  There are very inexpensive to buy.

There are two phases to building a ship.  Step 1) get all the resources and the blueprint/permit and  2) craft the ship.

In addition to obtaining all of the ingredients, you will still need to spend Reals and Doubloons to build a Shipyard.  Regardless, if you build, or have someone else build, the ship you must collect all the ingredients.

If you were to provide all of the ingredients to a shipwright, he would likely build you a ship for free. For a large ship he might want you to provide the labour contract(s) for his time.  In order to craft large ships you will need to build your Crafting XP, by building lots of smaller ships.

I've never invested the time needed to craft ships.  It's much easier to let others build them.  Ships are cheap to buy, compared to the time it takes to craft them.

Hi

I am not currently playing so the latest changes might affect things, especially the soon-removal of doubloons from ships.

Shipbuilding used to be profitable, but the 3rd rate market was destroyed by the arrival of the redoubtable DLC (Don't get me wrong, love the redoubtable).

I imagine the arrival of the Victory DLC is having the same effect on the 1st rate market.

The most widely purchased ship in the game used to be the trinc, that is about to get blown away by the new free DLC coming.

So I would say, on balance, if you have not already invested in a shipyard, you are better off joining a clan with established crafters, and buying or trading for your ships, which will soon be available for just reals, no doubloons required (many will still require permits, which can be farmed for or bought for reals).

Unless you have a particular desire to be a ship-builder for reasons other than profit.

Cheers

Unless you are in the 'right' port, with the 'right' port bonuses and are friends with the clan that owns the port so your ships have the bonuses, and you have a supply source for seasoned wood, don't bother unless you want to craft the ships just for yourself like I do. People only want ships with port bonuses and seasoned wood now. Port bonuses and seasoned wood have ruined ship crafting and I am thoroughly sick of them and hearing about them.

Hiall,

there is a help Channel in game. I recommend to ask your questions there, most of the time you get an answer immediately.
The only reason to have a shipyard  nowadays is if you enjoy sailing your own builds into battle. If not, you’re better off if you join a clan or ask in chat whether someone can build a ship for you. People are very friendly and helpful on the PvE server.

Hi,

many thanks for your replies….

helpdesk: it,s not the best choice in this case......I mean they are helpful...but they will not tell you "don,t use this or that part of the game"...."don,t build ships it,s not profitable etc".....because their aim is to  encourage you...not to disappoint you......and I can uderstand that….gamer,s opinion is much better in this case who,s been through the problems of shipbuilding...

......anyhow, I was afraid so…...this ship building is probably risky as a beginner, using the same amount of time: I would probably make more money by taking cargo than with ship building....may be when I,ll be at a later stage in the game....
