We like it better as an event ship.
We were just replying to the statement that the ship is not in game. Many captains own it and some sail it.

me as a dutchy personaly realy proud of my nation to be able to produce such a beautifull ship

i been like a 100% more excited when you announced the wreker  about naval action you cant tell me you cant come up with a way to make it aviable to craft but just as a reward in a chest being rare

admiraal the ryuter was a proper hero to many dutch people hearing what a person out of such a small nation can achieve is wonderfull

so please release this beutifull ship to the dutch people that are just willing to play the game just to sail their favorite historical ship

Each time some serious change happens (or before, by mere announcement), we can see the forum cry "game is ruined/we are all doomed!"

Well said.  For 5 years there have been countless posts raving about game's death.  Yet lots of players are here.

Quick reminder to Dutch fans. They should say thanks devs in reviews if they like something. Even if some dutch content was planned or was just tested during event. Because then we might add more of it.

This is an irrelevant question (maybe even stupid).

No sane developer would say that they dont play
Every developer must answer yes to this question no matter if they play or not.

You are implying that we got the best of steam award by driving blind? In this case dont you mean we are hello kittyNIG AWESOME developers who are able to develop one of the best games of 2019 (by valve's Gaben opinion) by not playing it at all ?

of course you're kitty awesome! guess we wouldn't fiercely fight for a trashgame would we? look on simulations for instance: you get harsh wind in your face if details are not correct. Because people care for what they truly like. and yet there is also nonsense in your awesome game. Loyal player, Gene

I swear I'll give a positive review if:

-Loot tables for Epic events and sealed Bottles are adjusted.

-De Ruyter permit is in some form accessable (I.e. Adjustment of loot tables like Deadman chest or shown above) we never got any information, that the plan to make it craftable was axed. So it was a let down for many people that had been waiting for it. Or didn't get one / bought from other players because they expected the Devs to do what they said they will do.

-maybe add diverse mixed fleets. Maybe even trade ships with escorts.

-smaller privateer fleets as promised

-The NPC raid attack fleets stop sailing straight for cap circles with elite boost ignoring players on their way and instant cap while beeing in a 900BR port battle with 1350BR

This game came along on a long journey. While a lot of things improved and actually made me come back to the game, after having quit more than just once, there's still plenty of room for improvements. Especially on the PVE server. I'm looking forward to the new woods and hostility mechanics. Even tho I am afraid hostility and crafting superb ships will never be anything for a small nation/clan with lots of Dads and full workers.

So please prove me wrong and maybe a good review will come rather soon than late.

If they stay silent they give the reviews to be ruled by vocal haters who just circle jerk each other. Positive reviews always get less likes, while haters group up always favoriting negative sentiment. We did not see positive spike in reviews after we added Implacable as crafted and tested De Ruyter in event. We consider that nobody cared for crafted ships anymore.

As this is business and teams shift to popular projects from unpopular projects NA team gets developers based on the reviews. To plan ahead I need to see how much resources i will have available and will have to consider hiding some content behind events. Here is how it works : Higher reviews - more developers, lower reviews - less developers (including dutch ship creators). So dutch players can make an effort to encourage artists by actually 1) saying thank you in reviews or 2) saying they are pissed off in reviews.

I thought our thanks was by buying the DLC and making them some of the top sales on steam.  Cause really other than stroking your ego it just seems like all ya'll care about any more is the cash grab.   Why would I give a good review when a ship we been waiting on a long time suddenly becomes a rare event ship when it was promised to be a craftable ship?    Even worse half the good craftable ships are all hiden permits between crappy RNG loot tables.    So instead I'll just redeem my DLC ship in season wood and play that instead.  Oh wait I break them all up to get season wood to craft with what little time I get to play the game these days.   Cause I don't have time to go grind solo EPIC elite fleets and maybe or maybe not get the loot I'm hoping for.

AGAIN EPIC FIGHTS SHOULD HAVE EPIC LOOT, not crap ship builds and no good loots.  Fix your loot tables and give folks better chance to get these notes and refits and you might see more of them crafted.

I dont know man.
You have not yet even updated your angry review on paints, despite the fact that literally hundreds of paints were added to the game since then. 17 potential buyrs found your negative and incorrect review helpful. What was the point of adding those new paints for free then? Maybe we should have sold them in 15 separate packs with RNG like CS does? Ratings would still be mixed or low but we would have more money.. Whats the point of adding beautiful things if they have zero influence on positive mood? Explain to me as if i am five years old.

I like the concept the devs have expressed - cutting down on the BS tagging.

How hard would it be to have a system that measures the difference in ship speed? And, if the chaser is even slightly faster, allow the battle to continue so long as tagging continues? And, if the chaser is slower, the battle ends once the separation is greater than, I don't know, 1000m (or whatever seems fair)?

That would keep the chases you've described, and allow an opportunity for a slower ship to slow down the faster via damage (historical basis is the chance of knocking away a spar or the like), but possibly also cut down on the BS?

Would that be too difficult to code?

Any thoughts?

Distance based tagging is not going to cut the time wasting. If you cannot get into serious firing range in 10 + exit timer minutes then we will stop the time wasting by letting the target exit. If you can deliver the damage then you can continue fighting. This is the best implementation.

So for now I will not make a review in the hope the game will be developped in to the greatest game I have played for a long time.

Some concerns of the community last year

  • Protection of new players
  • Increase of online
  • Alts inlfuence in RVR by removing them from hostility
  • Changes to Raider mechanics
  • New ships
  • Faster travel in OW

We delivered on all fronts. Online is growing steadily since october, some mechanics that require growth of online are not directly understood by the communty and are not liked. But to grow online they must be in game and there must be more of them.
There is more PVP, there is more honest RVR. New players are better protected and will be protected even more.New mission and cheaper prices will bring more of them.

Now do your part or remove yourself from the forum. Haters are honest as their hate is pure, fans are awesome and loved as their support is endless. You just sit in the middle on your high fence and wiggle.

I would be perfectly fine with selling paints for each ship individually, even if havn't bought them, yet. But they are on my list.

Now do your part

This means the following.(this will be included in the development plans update)

Spread the positivity and shut down excessive negativity in game and on forum
Leave the review - does not matter positive or negative.. dont be a neutral person on the fence! Say your word!
Stay constructive.

On the proposals and feedback

  • We have one programmer. So there is no point to propose changes requiring coding. Only features that focus on growing online and retetion of new players will be done + this includes RVR but only if features increase retention. Critical blockers and fixes of bugs will be done first as always.
  • We have one and a half artist who makes ships but he is fully booked for Victory, Rotterdam for a while. Both are DLC ships.
    • de Ruyter fate has changed because the situation changed. We see that event based delivery of content is more exciting and creates more retention.+ When we gave ships to everyone we have not seen growth in excitement (like we have seen with events). Change our mind by showing excitement.
  • There is no point to be upset when your feedback is not responded to. Programmer is booked for so much time and focused on growth. With 1 artist and 1 programmer realistically we can only focus on new player expeirence and critical bugs and potential exploits.
    • Example: @Koltes suggestion on changing surrender mechanics.
      • Will it increase online? No
      • Will it increase sales? No
      • Will it make PVP better for everyone? No
      • Will it make RVR better? No
      • No point to even respond to it. Its not going to happen.
    • Proposal must fulfill the following requirements
      • It must solve a specific problem of the majority or reduce negative outcome for the majority or must create excitement for some or majority.
      • It must be beneficial for both new and old players
      • It must not take anything away that players worked hard to get.
  • Reviews somewhat matter- if they get higher i might get another programmer from GL. If they get lower (nobody wants to work on unpopular project). This is business. So if you want your suggestion to get into the game. Review it.
  • This game is good. It can get better, but the speed with 1 programmer will be a "turtle speed". Players who are very upset by slow speed of development will be dissapointed

To help us maximize our efficiency in design and thinking and prioritization process all crap and fluff will be removed from the forum. This concerns tribunals for example. As a result,

  • All features that generate tribunals will be changed so they dont generate tribunals. Community have not supported us for giving the freedom we will remove parts of this freedom as a result.
    • We will move in game national moderation to the community leaders (large clans). We just dont want to waste time in tribunals.
    • We will also remove battle chat with enemies, because it generates excessive amount of reports
    • Screening is getting removed and hostility changed.
    • All features that will generate tribunals will be adapted, changed or removed
      • To @Liq and @rediii points. Some might say we are throwing the baby with the bathwater - but if the water is acid its better to throw it quickly to save the baby.
      • Excessive Time Wasting that is forced to players by other players will be softened out or removed, even if it removes features.
  • Same with forums.
    • We will be removing or ignoring useless information. People who dont bring value and waste time will be removed. This will be good for you. If you are a real fan you dont want developers to listen to bad advice and waste time reading it.

Thank you the explanation, this makes things much clearer and removes or at least decreases frustion for not answering our proposals. This kind of open communication should have happened before and I hope you will give us a some update every one or two month.

I don't think that new ships is what the game needs now, more some incentive to use all types of ships, though I understand, that you have to earn your money and that works with DLCs best.

Keep going, and maybe in the near future you will find some time for the bigger coding issues like water depth and ships draft.

We need more ship tows

I would say no, actually it's good at 1. Currently if you do a PB or screening fleet the defenders can lose ships and just bring more out for the PB. If they got more tows, means they can flood the defense.

I have made such a proposal for about 2 years: Adapt the number of ai ships and their routes on PvE server to the increased player number (one would have to add : and their relocation due to port ownership)......

Fulfills all your criteria 100%. Did it happen ? ....

Maybe is a long work for the only one programmer he has to prepare a code that follow that rule

Posted (edited)

set number of ai to x times number of players (make x different for PvP server, where you want to encourage players to fight players rather than ai)

Difficult ? Idk, i am no programmer, but I rather think its less complicated than the  modelling of gun ball trajectories.....

I'm not an expert too but maybe if you want a dynamic process that for x players online you have y Ai ships you have to make a check of the online player every t minutes and change Ai fleet . but if the fleets are on their route what you do? you add more  you remove some that are just in front ports..probably cound impact on fps performance dunno but sometimes things that we think are easy are not.

  • We will be removing or ignoring useless information. People who dont bring value and waste time will be removed. This will be good for you. If you are a real fan you dont want developers to listen to bad advice and waste time reading it.

This is raising some concern, as it is authoritarian and you will after some time get a forum like the Russian duma: lackeys who will applaud and praise what the president says.

Not sure you want that.

Free thought and unhindered speech, unpopular opinions is an asset which is valuable. It produces not only trash, what you attempt to eliminate, but also healthy criticism what everyone needs if he does not want his project to get petrified with yes-men and their useless affirmation of whatever is the official line. And we all are no gods. What is today a "wrong" opinion can tomorrow be proven right, and vice versa. If you annihilate such things, the inspirational functions of input here will tend towards zero - also because people will be intimidated and feel insecure if they should write something which may bring them the ban hammer because it was taken as "trolling" or just "bad advice".

Once you wrote you were considering to partly withdraw from forum and less react with personal statements. Community begged you to stay and you did. If this forum interaction with unavoidable rogue opinions is again enerving you, what I think may have to do with your situation at home (newborn means little sleep for parents, drama), you should pause a bit and leave the interaction more to your moderators. Appoint one of them to your "community manager" and let him summonize weekly the main talking points in forum to you, and you assign actions taken or not taken according to that.

Just no authoritarian rule. It's poison for any forum, parliament or other entities where people come together for exchange. I have seen it happen on other games' forum.

Hope this is not considered a "bad advice" and "wasted time reading it". :)

It must also be said that many players instead of being constructive in giving advice they only spend a lot of words to denigrate the game and the developers and assume that what the developers ask are obliged to make it and if they do not find an answer in what they ask they leave  by denigrating the game

However you should also look at stuff why people stop playing that have quite some hours in their account.

Tell me why? If you read the book you sometimes want to read it again. You dont ask authors to add new content to THAT book. Maybe those guys should care about the book as it is. And if they left and stopped playing - so be it. If they left happy - great - why bring them back and potentially ruin their happy impression. If they left unhappy the book is still the same. With better cover.

Psst. They can play or not play but I thank everyone (playing and not playing) for 40 bucks ;) for this good book on age of sail..
