Vonatar Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Hello devs! I guess it was already debated, but it would be lovely if you can implement this new feature in the game. Once a battle start, like a Prince hunting down a Indiaman, there should be the option for the hunter or the hunted to propose the end of the fight in change of a compensation (reals). If the agreement takes place, the hunter is prevented, by game mechanic, to hunt down the same player for a certain amount of time (half hour?). 8
Liq Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Sounds silimar to what Koltes suggested a couple years ago. Cant find it right now though 1
erelkivtuadrater Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 some kind of cargo inspection yes, its been suggested so many times 1
Morv Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Agree with this feature, as it would save both players a lot of time (especially when it promises to be a boring battle). Another thing would be to be able to show your hold as a trader, to prove you're empty or just to bargain/"trade" for your life. 1
Angus MacDuff Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 It would be nice but in fact, you can already do this in chat. There has to more trust involved of course. 37 minutes ago, Morv said: Another thing would be to be able to show your hold as a trader, to prove you're empty or just to bargain/"trade" for your life. Many hunters don't care about the cargo and only want the kill. It's very rare for me to want to drag a captured (slow) trader out of enemy waters. 2
JDMonster Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 The problem with trading in general is that killing a player gives much better rewards than capturing. I've been attacked multiple times in traders with halfway decent cargo just to have the attacker not even try to board me or anything. They just want the kill. 2
GrubbyZebra Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 If sinking traders didn't drop doubloons, then I could see this working out. I have tried to end attacks this way many times, or even to buy back a ship that is being captured, but they invariably get sunk for the doubloons (3k doubloons is worth far more than 300k in cargo). Alternatively, I have had attacks end due to being paid in doubloons for letting the attacker leave. But such things also require both players to be honourable enough to live up to their word. 1
Macjimm Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 It doesn't matter if there is a game mechanic to prohit a second attack. It's a war server, the risk creates opportunities and allows choice. There is risk in trading now. I can agree to deliver goods to a player and there is no guarantee the buyer will pay. Shipwrights can build a custom ship, and discouver the player refusing to provide the agreed payment. I could make a trade for a specific build of a ship and find out after I have paid that the ship is not what I paid for. The list goes on and on. Risk. Trust. Player vs Player relationships. But I would love to be able to pay a ransom inside the Battle Instance, and inside the Open World. It starts with communication between nations. 2

Victim: No, i only have fish, please dont kill me (actually have goods of value of 20Million Reals) Pirate: Ok, i trust you. Victim: Thanks alot! *what an idiot* This is your situation. In reality, most cargoes are worth less than a million reals and if I capture a ship, deep in Pirate territory, I would then have to take the great risk of escorting it's slow ass to a home port. I have no intention of risking my good ship with 3 million worth of mods for a million Real cargo. Especially when there is almost certainly a revenge gank waiting for me. Only once in the last couple of months have I brought home a cargo (a shit-ton of repairs on 3 ships) and it was near a friendly port in a quiet hour. I'm not saying the ransom idea is completely useless, but it has very limited value and in the past, when players have offered a ransom that was acceptable (on battle chat), they have always paid up. The one time I had trouble with that, I contacted the guy's clan leader, and HE made good the debt (it was Grungemonkey's clan at the time I think) and tossed the guy from his clan. There is honour amongst thieves out there and I don't think we need any further mechanism here. Edited March 10, 2020 by Angus MacDuff 1
GrubbyZebra Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I still think sinking traders shouldn't pay doubloons.
Yoha Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Kills matter, loot just means you have to go back to port instead of continuing killing.
Raekur Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 The only way a ransom idea would work is if there was not a pvp mission for kills that included the rank of the traders. Reclassify traders as rank 8 and thus make pvp kill missions only verses warships and this idea might have a chance of gaining some traction. Until that time, the only value a trader has to a hunter is another step towards completion of a kill mission.
