Question

Posted (edited)

Hello,

i sail with a Trincomalle. I look into  ship info  and see 3 Slots open for Ship Upgrades. and two slots are not useable. Can someone explain me if it is possibel to unlock the two other slots ?

on the Book side you can unlock trough making XP with the Vessel.

How do you unlock the last two ship upgrade slots.

And a General question ...

is there a list of all Upgrades available and what are the best upgrades to use..on each ship and also on the book side. Is there a list of all books and which books are a must for your slots in your opinion.

and at last when you level the book side you get some generic books to choose and can switch out as you like. can you also switch books out of your inventory and when you want another one. Can you take it out again or is it destroyed like the ship upgrades if you want to move it back to inventory.

you have 5 ship qualities. Grey-green-blue-purple-Gold. AI can sail any of the qualities which means if you capture ai ship it might be 1 upgrade slots or 5 upgrade slots.

Crafted ships are guaranteed 3 slots. If you craft the ship in any clan owned port there is a bigger chance your ship will get better quality. So its RNG based.

So to your question, no you cant unlock the 2 last spots on the upgrade side.

you get alot of useful info if you use https://na-map.netlify.com/ this is a community webpage administrated by a user, its mostly up to date with any information you might find useful.

The books are something you learn, so when you use it you "read" it and can put it on mostly any ships. The only exceptions are the books only classified for certain ranks. Example: Marines 15 (6th-7th), Floating Battery (1st-3rd)

So a crafted Ship have guaranteed 3 Slots (Grey-green-blue). Can a purple and gold crafted ship cn have 4  or 5 slots  as well?

the AI ships have always a random 1 - 5 slots when you capture it and can be grey to Gold.

The books you use it (learn) and you have the knowledge forever for that char...  some book knowledge can only used on some ships depending of the Rate of the ship... correctly?

Thanks ...

are there certain Books and items i should try to find (or buy if i can and they are affordable on the market) because they are the best things to have like

Gunnery Encyclopedia or Naval clock (which i have).

I know you cant say this item is the best for this type of ship but is there a guidline what things i should look for like general builds that perform well on Battleships or traderships.

couldn´t find any guidelines or forum entries.

I only sail with two to three friends and we have this small clan. Maybe it is better to go to a bigger clan to get acess to a port where our shipbuilder have the port bonus as well. with 3 to 4 people we will never can conquer a port.

Gunnery Encyclopedia and Art of Ship handling are very good (composite) books to have.  Naval Clock (or the slightly weaker Improved Sextant) are good speed boosts, but do not waste them on a trader.  Once a Trader is loaded, it is slower, no matter what mods it has, and very vulnerable.

Purple ships have 4 (and sometimes 5) slots.  Gold always have 5 slots plus a trim (fast, Sturdy, Cramped, etc)

You should look specially for the books you need to craft the final product. For example AoSH, GE, BotFR. Then you have planking, trim speed and some other books that are used for crafting great speedmods, mast mods, repair mods etc.

About the ship crafting

It can be a 5 slot purple ship and a 4 blue ship, what determines if they are the very top is if they have trims (fast, very fast, sturdy etc)

Note that Naval Clock is not a book but a permanent mod which means it can be installed on just one ship.

The three most desirable books are Gunnery Encyclopedia (better accuracy, reload speed, and penetration), Art of Ship Handling (better speed and turning) and Book of Five Rings (better crew survivability). Each of these are crafted from a collection of specific other books and it’s a good idea to know these components because you don’t want to read the sub book if you plan on using it in the recipe for the better book. Use the map resource recommended above to find out the components. These sub books can cost more than a million each.
