Sir Madoc Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 No offense to people have already made them, but I think it's crazy to be making societies this early into development. We have been given no time frame by game-labs as to when the open world could be released, let alone a society system. Realistically it could be 2 whole years before the game is functional enough for societies to make an impact. I admire the enthusiasm of The Decatur Armada, Arms of Chaos, etc.. but I think those who made one already are going to be disillusioned by the amount of time they'll have to wait before they see any kind of reward for their efforts. In the mean time they are going to be spending money on hosting voice coms, websites etc which will hardly see any use and by the time open world is released those members who originally joined may have other ideas in mind.
Leviathan Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 We have 14 in teamspeak right this moment. Just because the game isn't officially released doesn't mean we can't have some fun already. 1

Just because the game isn't officially released doesn't mean we can't have some fun already. Do you think you'll still have that level of activity in a year if we still only have a battle arena mode and no open world? I think many of those people will take break from playing the game when they unlock the santisima because once you unlock all the ships theirs not really anymore reason to play.
Sir Madoc Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 haters gonna hate.. Not a hater, I am actually considering making one myself at a later stage. I just think its way to early to be thinking about clans yet...
Robert de Keith Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 We can talk and play other online games while we wait
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Social gaming clubs are not attached to simply ONE game. Therefore they always have members spread across a half a dozen or so. It is not that "we", social gaming clubs, are doing societies specific and planning an entire year. It is easier than that. We have guys that have NA and we all bunch up together. If we announce it publicly or not is not your particular concern but a good addition to the NA community as a whole. 1
Mirones Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 another thing that was forgoten is why are there sometimes tester with just 2-5 forum posts? because they are siting down with others and basicly giving out error files and feedback in a gigant package so the devs dont get spammed with thousend topics and feedback posts. Me, Chilliy Willy, leviathan, Pappnase,Dekaktus,Bungeelemming was one of the small groupse durring focus testing. and talking over teamspeak is easier for some than typing a wall of text on the forum that could be missunderstood.
Galileus Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Why too early? Is it gonna fall apart - so what? Is any of the experiences worthless then? Are you going to burn bridges and forget friends you made? Does it hurt anyone? Does it make others have less fun? Does it bother you... well, why exactly does it bothers you? Because I cannot see any single reason why someone should be bothered about people making friends.
Thomas Blackwell Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Copied and pasted from my reply to you in 'Arms of Chaos' There are a number of clans now, started by enthusiastic captains across the globe. It's a great way to establish groups of people by nationality/language/interests/gameplay/etc. Which will later lead to strong cores of different yet similar people willing to provide experienced help and guidance for those in need of it. With luck, we will have a selection of clans for each major nationality (both in-game and out) ready to set sail as soon as the Guilds are launched. But, that said you are entitled to your opinion, as we are entitled to believe that forming clans or small groups is not quite a waste of time, but more like wasting not a moment. EDIT: To respectfully correct you, a prototype open world is being released this spring.
Tom Pullings Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Do you think you'll still have that level of activity in a year if we still only have a battle arena mode and no open world? I think many of those people will take break from playing the game when they unlock the santisima because once you unlock all the ships theirs not really anymore reason to play. What a strange view of the game. What good is unlocking the Santi now. You won't get to keep it. I don't care about First Rates. I simply love to sail these ships. That's why I bought the game. Further developments will be icing on the cake and I'll be here continuously until they come. And fighting with a team in arena is the best way to fight now. It is amusing if also puzzling why you would write in two separate threads and then start one of your own to tell others they don't know what they are doing, making a mistake, not realizing that their reasons for starting and enjoying a society now can't really make sense.
Chromey Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Not a hater, I am actually considering making one myself at a later stage. I just think its way to early to be thinking about clans yet... Sorry I was fishing for likes. I guess IFAIL
Prater Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 No offense to people have already made them, but I think it's crazy to be making societies this early into development. We have been given no time frame by game-labs as to when the open world could be released, let alone a society system. Realistically it could be 2 whole years before the game is functional enough for societies to make an impact. Devs have given a (provisional) timeline. They have said May 2015. Why not form now and get organized? And others have stated it correctly. What a strange view of the game. I unlocked the victory a long time ago, I unlocked the ST shortly after it came out. I have played over 300 games since. The fun is in the battles, not unlocking the last ship in the progression tree. And playing with others who are like minded makes the game even more interesting and enjoyable. but I think those who made one already are going to be disillusioned by the amount of time they'll have to wait before they see any kind of reward for their efforts An effort awarded by instant gratification quickly reforms back into what it was before the effort was made. One that has to work long to attain the goal forms the process into a lifestyle.
William the Drake Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Speaking personally, the Messengers of Death are active in other games, not just naval Action. But being a PotBS society, many of us are interested in NA, and plan to be here for the longevity of the game. We have had voice comms and websites long before NA. Though if we didn't we still would have dolled out for them. Just as with any game, community is key: like minded fellows who enjoy playing with each other. If some of us move on early, then that is absolutely fine, we will have enjoyed their time while they were with us. Otherwise the game is far too boring. To be completely honest, the societies are probably a lot closer now than they will be upon release: the lines to be drawn by nations and factions will probably separate us as far as the likeliness of communications. While clans are a bit superfluous at the moment, they help give us a sense of pride as well as allows us to show who we are and provide a closer community.
Illusive Tabby Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I started playing War Thunder back in May. Prior to that, I had sworn off clans because every. Single. Time....Drama tore everything apart. The group I now play with...well, we play half a dozen games together. Those who are starting a clan here, perhaps if they are not a part of another clan, are looking for like-minded gamers. If even half of those who join one of the societies here stay, and more join up to and after Naval Action releases officially...They are doing something right.
NorthernWolves Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 We are having a blast over at our website and on TS almost every night. It has become a community where we talk and laugh and discuss all things related to the age of sail. Life is short jimbo, have fun. 1
DraigUK Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 @OP - Why does it bother you what others do? If they enjoy what they are doing leave them carry on. It effects you not a single bit, and Open world will be here quite soon, in the next few months, according to the devs. I've not joined a clan/society until I see how the game pans out, but that's my choice. If they are having fun as a group good for them and long may it continue. 1
Robert de Keith Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I just love to socialize while skipping cannonballs across the pond
Ink Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I think It can't be too early since some of communities has been awoken from sleepy mode by NA already, so it is more like rebirth...it can not be too early:)
Chustler Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I've been a tester since much earlier in the testing phase and still I am loving my time in game. I unlocked my santi ages ago, and still I am loving my time in the game. I think you underestimate the enthusiasm some of us have for the genre, and the game. Decatur is an enthusiastic and friendly bunch so far, and many of us are already many months into the testing phase with no sign of slowing.
Admiral Murl Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Yeah, all of you guys that are having fun and playing games with a group of people are just nutz! Why on earth would anyone want to create a sense of community!!!! geez 2
