Subs will most likely be automated and will either get limited design construction and then set a limited range of tasks of what they can do (like RTW's but more expansive) or maybe, maybe total control but i doub this.

Costal forts will probs will be the same you just design some, build those designs and place them at key locations/places maybe with airbases, towns and ports plus docks.

Dunno what MTB's are.

At least i hope Forts will be added in to the campaign, should have some naval academy missions where you have to assualt either bunch of forts, a big fort guarded by a medium sized fleet, escort weak ships through a channel with some forts on either side or protect your own forts etc.

Hope not, we already got limited design in DD/TB and CL. I'm not talking about such "weirdos"like i-400. But, actually fine ocean going sub with tremendous fire power can and must be allowed to be done.

Im just thinking of if they want to go down the RTW lane of things when it comes to subs otherwise im generally fine with either way too be honest.

actually you don't really need to speculate how sub are going to come...

Submarine and Anti-Submarine Warfare
Submarines will have a special function in the campaign. Expensive to research, submarines sacrifice funds that could be spend on other warship technologies. However, once they become available, each campaign turn you will have the power to sink enemy merchant or military ships without any opposition, unless the opponent has sufficient Anti-Submarine-Warfare(ASW) technologies.

You control submarines by deploying them on the map and choosing their rules of engagement. During wartime, their effect is calculated per turn according to the strategic situation on the map. Similarly, the ASW ability of your ships is auto-calculated according to the amount of destroyers, depth charge equipment, submarine mines, torpedo nets and several other technologies currently researched.

Submarines can open Pandora's Box for the side that chooses an unrestricted warfare policy. An accidental sinking of a neutral ship may drag other nations into a war against you.

As for coastal forts, right now we always fight on the high ocean but maybe they will at cost, for example coastal bombardment missions. They would be a cool feature.

I don't quite see what makes a TB different then a MTB.

Let's start with":

a) Amount of torpedoes in salvo

b) Operational range

c) ...see IJN Shimakaze 🎃

Mine Warfare
Like submarines, mines will have a special role in campaigns. Mines will need special research to become truly effective but will be a constant threat for ships even at the lowest technological levels.

Huh... effectiveness, I think they mean: - Q Quantity. As more as merrier.  🎃

I don't get you...

the Shimakaze was a DD not a TB or MTB and the amount of torpedoes in salvo is something we decided.

And yeah having an operational range that allows for cost defense only, unless you also want TB carriers, I think the difference between the 2 is so small that having TB is enough...

Actually not, it's a torpedo cruiser-destroyer. And never where a DD.

Difference between TB and MTB is same as between Lamborghini Diablo and Fiat Punto. Torpedo Boat - is a name of mostly Whitehead Torpedo armed destroyers where torpedoes are main armament and which designed to "dive" on a group of ships in open sea to make torpedo soup

. MTB - is just a motor torpedo boat for coastal operation only.

Shimakaze, if you're referring to the WW2 ship, was a destroyer.

A fairly hefty destroyer, but a destroyer none the less.

She was in fact smaller than some destroyers, such as the Akizukis.

A common 'class' she is given, which is however informal, is "Super Destroyer".

TB is a same... a destroyer. But earlier era, WW1 and pre-WW1.

@SiWi Motor torpedo boats i think were like those tiny boutes that had two forward torpedo launchers and maybe a few medium or heavy machine guns for fighting other poorly armoured or smoll vessels.

Most had two or sometimes 4 torpedo tubes and their secondary armamament consisted of medium-heavy machines guns with some light or medium caliber autocannons as well.

Generally very fast as well some reahcing over 48knots in speed.

Motor gun boats are the same thing but have a big gun that fired like a howitzer or a small turret on the boat. Commonly both ships used petrol engines hence the 'motor' section of the name being used.

And then they got converted into houseboats!

Not quite. The destroyer was developed in response to the torpedo boat. They were originally called Torpedo Boat Destroyers

one gets instantly sunk by a 5 inch shell the other takes 3 maybe 4 well placed shells

on the topic though

id like to see a submarine designer so we could make sourcouf like submarines (even if impractical) or cruiser submarines

mtbs would be nice especially if you are playing italy or in the med they could be used were quite succesfull for them in ww1 so i would like to have the ability to use them

MTB.

I get that but is that difference enough to justify them?

What exactly do they do what TB don't do?

As far I'm concern the placement of the torpedos and the side facing forward.

Otherwise they seem to be a bit unneeded.

Not they I'm against adding them but I would view them as very low priority.

In fact, a large MTB and a little TB are same thing. And yep game don't need  buildable or playable MTB. It's part of coastal defense. Like artillery battery and base aviation. So their niche should be similar: you buy an MTB squadron, the enemy shows himself near coast, event triggered "MTB attacked the enemy," X - ships drowned, Y - ships damaged, Z - MTB lost in action".

MTBs could be a coastal defense ships.
Sadly the proper counter against these would be some auto cannons and small rapid firing guns.
But i don't think MTBs would be bad idea.

Could also use corvettes and frigates as well (not sure if heavy frigates were a thing) and patrol boats, so quite a lot of coastal defense ships that could be designed and created.

Oh and them fat chonky coastal defence ships with big guns

This would be very interesting coastal defense ship

Yeah!

I hope we get to design our own as well!

Can't wait for alpha 3 lol.
