Drat! Do we know if they are considering implementing it? I don’t know how big of a factor that was in war. Sounds like a lot of you can hit underneath the belt.

i heard the opposite at least for the Japanese special ammunition for that purpose.

From what I understand it’s fundamentally a lucky shot that while truly devastating when you land such a hit it is rare. And it’s rarer that it actually does damage. See the below the water hit against Rodney by Bismarck. The shell flipped end for end in the water and shattered its base fuses against the hull before coming to rest in Rodney’s internals.

TL;DR they are incredibly rare hits that while shouldn’t be discounted are more likely to be a dud than an actual hit.

Greater factor overall would probably be splinters from near hits penetrating unarmored / poorly armored hulls.
